  1. Unfortunately listening to Talkshite commentary dreamteam of Clive Tyldesley and Trevor Sinclair. ‘Get stuck in’, ‘hit it up to the big men’...thick fucking cunts.

Always makes me laugh that rhetoric. Always guaranteed to solve all the problems on the pitch

Belittles Duncan Ferguson's approach here too, as they've played some nice stuff, while mixing in a bit more directness, but even that has been into feet mostly.

  2. That Everton midfield looks lightweight.

I like what he's done actually. I've always wondered why Silva never tried Sigurdsson more as traditional midfielder in a three to allow for Iwobi to start through the centre with him. Then just have Schneiderlin sit deep.

I like the idea. Will be interesting to see how they look this game.

Everton's twitter says playing 4-4-2 with Schneiderlin and Sigurdsson as the 2 centre mids.

Yikes! Theo and Calvert-Lewin up top as a little and Large?

That's even more of a change than I thought. Interesting still though.

If Richarlison and Iwobi play narrower it could work. They'd have to be very disciplined and compact defensively too.

I could see Theo really thriving though, as I think he's an old school player that really would have been fantastic striker back in the day alongside a more physical front man.

  4. Severe double standards when it comes to this man v. Rafa.

If Rafa was still in charge, everyone tonight would be lauding his tactics and how he masterminded a win against a form team while having a shit squad etc..

Steve Bruce does it.. “oh the keeper had the game of his life”, “just defend and hope for the best”

I find him excruciating like I do many of those journeymen managers who seem to specialise in teams that battle relegation year in year out. But let’s face it, he’s doing better than any of us thought. He deserves credit for that.

You look at teams like Everton, Arsenal and especially West Ham when we played them, and you see teams who have thrown in the towel for their managers. Players who don’t give a fuck. Don’t want to make any effort while those managers are still there etc.

That’s not nufc. Every single player is putting in a shift. Heads haven’t dropped when we’ve lost.

We’re now 6 points better off and 3 places higher than we were at this stage last season with a better goal difference of +1

All of this without an actual center forward like we had last season with Rondon..

Yes, because we'd actually look competent and convincing in getting the result. This is a really silly argument.

it's not the result in question, it's the nature of the how the team is performing. It is very clear that how we play is not sustainable. It doesn't look like there is any quality approach out there.

We have a group of really good defenders that serve us well when we sit deep and that is the crux of it. They are even scoring the majority of our goals. It's ridiculous.

  5. I think the frustrating thing for me is how we use the ball when we have it. Okay we want to play deep and that's fine if we do and we don't have much possession, but when we have the ball can we at least look like a professional outfit please?

We literally cannot play simple passes into players' feet as a team, whether we are under pressure or not. There is no movement and no patience whatsoever, within a moment's notice they just punt it forward to a forward who has no support around him, because both Almiron and ASM are out wide, despite the fact we are using wingbacks. Can they both not tuck in a bit and play off of Joelinton like Perez and Almiron did last season.

We need to tweak these things and we could be so much better and more dangerous as a team.

  6. Bruce has at least had success in the chapionship and has won promotions. He's also done okay in the premier league at times previously.

Pearson? Man ... that guy just plays a hard man on TV, and acts all surly about his players and team and the media, but he hasn't actually done anything. Ever.

  7. Pearson's mad as pan of crabs, seriously unhinged and a shit appointment. I know he laid a few solid stones at Leicester but even so... Poor choice.

It's a worse appointment than Bruce even. Unbelievable stuff.

No it's not. At least he has the courage of his convictions however prehistoric they might be. Bruce can't make his mind up.

I imagine Watford probably see him as a younger version of Sam Allardyce.

Yikes. So Pearson coming in to Newcastle over the summer would have been less alarming than Bruce?

  8. What did he say?

"A missed opportunity. I am okay with that performance, it was always going to be difficult against a team that never shifted. The first goal is really important and it is super difficult when you go behind against a team like Newcastle.

"I was told at the start of the season that the linesman would not put his flag up and let it go. He put his flag up and the referee was about to blow his whistle.

"Everyone in the ground stopped. Jonjo Shelvey even nonchalantly went up and took an opportunity. His body language said to me he had seen the linesman had put the flag up and he was going to be offside.

"The game has changed. This game now is completely different to what I experienced as a 16-year-old lad as an apprentice. This game in a heartbeat has changed. I don't know where it is going and it is sucking the life out of me and the supporters."

"If we are going to go to all these tight calls and be super spot on with it, why did the linesman put his flag up? We've looked at it and it is tight. The game has completely changed and it sucked the life out of our players.

"I won't speak to the referee. We get so many mixed messages all the time. Jonjo didn't play to the end, he jogged up to the ball and all of a sudden got a bit excited and stuck it in. If he kept his flag down does Jonjo go through and my goalkeeper make a bit more effort?"

Imagine not knowing that that was Shelvey at full tilt.

Any modicum of effort by his defenders and they would have chased him down and taken it off him.

  9. If Rafa was in charge this would be a masterclass of a performance,  HWTFL

    Nah, that's rubbish.

Rafa never had us looking like this in the Championship and we are playing a team fresh out of the Championship today.

Fork off man, this is killing most,  we have been superb at a smash and grab and if this was last season we'd be fucking all over Rafa, folk just wont admit it.

It's a great result, but the fact is it's been dire. We did not play this way under Rafa against this level of competition.

It was really only against Man City and Liverpool for which we were criticised heavily by the same media now claiming we've defended so well.

We practically have 11 men in our box against Sheffield United for goodness sake. Knock it off.

Rafas teams weren't expansive till after xmas,  get points on the board first get safe then shackles off.Same as this season, honestly the criticism is fucking hilarious, we are winning 2-0 away from home in the PL,not east in ANY match. Its pathetic to criticise it tonight

I'm not tied to any result. I'm calling it as I see it.

I would be sick paying to watch this every game. This is how we play every single game. It's awful.

Rafas football was fucking shite anarl man,I loved him for the man he was not his football

That's just not true man. Sorry.

I mean you cannot say his football was shite and then praise this. It makes no sense because this is definitely infinitely worse.

Bruce has removed the centrebacks that use the ball so well, and Longstaff is no longer what he was last year where he kept the ball on the ground and allowed us to play through the front three.

Shelvey is now back in and playing long balls that continuously lose us possession. He's scoring which has been good currently, but the team does not function well at all.

    It's just bad.

Bruce is directly mirroring Rafa's tactics, only with an inferior playing staff due to injuries at the back and typical NUFC transfer business taking away the best attackers. I don't understand why some people on here are twisting themselves ten different ways to find some way that things would be different or better under Rafa after two hard-fought results this week. This group has been moulded with a certain ingrained organization and mentality for some time now, which is why they are still in this league despite the deficiencies. Bruce's challenge will be to maintain what has been built and expand upon it going forward, working under the same nonsensical financial limitations as all previous managers under Ashley.

    I disagree completely I'm afraid.

Bringing the likes of Dummet and Shelvey back in is making things more difficult as far as using the ball.

Almiron and ASM are now out and out wide men leaving any striker up there with absolutely no support centrally.

It's not the same approach at all, and it's not all down to losing Perez and Rondon.
