A manager doesn't get you to overperform xG though. Good keepers and good goalscorers get you to do that.

This is truth. Having no good plan for attacking play with world-class players gets you good xG too, when situations don’t come so much, but attackers use them well. But with Favre it’s even more about not even shooting until it’s absolutely sure to score.

Isn’t Favre the King of overperforming xGs though? Or am I mistaking him for someone else? If there’s anything this squad needs, its someone who can coach and drill an approach that gets results more than the sum of it’s parts. I appreciate that real life isn’t FM though.

Favre can prove how wrong stats can be. It is because his side never seem to shoot at any situation except until it is almost sure goal. It can be very frustrating to watch and just shows how stats are not the whole truth.

And obviously having someone like Håland helps alot.

Good to hear the views of a fan who has first hand experience. Mind, if he's decent at spending a bit of cash to get underperformed clubs up the table, he sounds ideal

Yes, in that sense he might actually be perfect ?

At Gladbach and Nice he had money to spend and low expectations, so he has found ideal jobs to go to - and we are currently in same situation. I am pretty sure that this is his pitch for this job with us.

But we have all-around better options than him. Mind I’m not convinced about Fonseca either and I would rather go for someone who can bring us to next level. I prefer likes of Ten Hag, Unai Emery and Ralf Rangnick.

I'm not going to argue with a fan that watches his team week in and week out, when I haven't, but doesn't this totally discount the jobs he did at Gladbach and Nice? Which were excellent on the whole.

Yes, have to give him respect on those, however the last season with Gladback was far more than horrible and he has shown that he is unable to change when things are going bad and that is very worrying considering our situation.

We have to remember that Gladbach is not small club and he had very good side there, so he wasn’t doing somehow special job there. Gladbach has resources to do well and they have done well after him too. And same goes with Nice, they do have money to spend and it’s not like Nice and Gladbach are small clubs that he got to overperform - not at all. He did decent job for small time there. Did not do spectacular job, but not horrible neither.

He has been having luxury to spend money and get good players to work with. It would be big gamble to put him working with this side, although we will probably spend in January.

He is NOT great option and many people seem to see him much better option than what he really is. It’s not about good balanced defense with him.

I dont get this mad love for Ten Haag, yes, very successful in a much inferior Dutch league but what else has he done to be considered a future top manager. I wouldnt go near him, if we can't get Benitez, then Favre all day long, someone who'll be able to organise the defense, play a decent style of football & save us from relegation, that's the most important thing. Not in a million years will he(Haag) get the United job, even if Sojskaer is sacked.

The summer for us is a whole different matter, thats a time when we can take our time and make sure we get the appointment right along with the players. Now is not the time to be making a play for a manager under contract already & is going to be looking for huge wages. He might fold in a PL relegation battle & what kind of a situation would that leave us in. We need a safe experienced pair of hands, not the next up & coming who may or may not be successful.

Give it to Favre if Benitez can't be secured. That's our best chance of survival.

You do realize that Favre is awful at organizing defense?

I’ve been watching BVB every week last 15 years and Favre is easily worst during that time in organizing defense.

i have been very active saying NO to Favre, because he is NOT good enough. Horrible at organizing defense, even worse at making changes during the game. During Favre’s time BVB was completely relying in good attacking players on the expense of defense. BVB kept conceding 4-5 goals against likes of Stuttgart and Hoffenheim, because Favre’s team kept week in week out giving out easy goals. At the end it was so easy to attack against Dortmund that no matter how good the attack was, the defense was so poorly organized that the balance was not there at all.

Favre also has bad habit at not being able to turn around the results after things did not work anymore. His last season at Gladbach is something worth remembering before giving him any job. Or obviously his end at BVB. I have kept saying here that Favre is NOT the right man for us, but players like Håland and Sancho did so much good that even with Favre’s complete lack of balance and organizing defence many still see him as good option.

Amanda read this: NO to Favre!

Have to add too: if you go for Favre, you need to spend VERY much on attacking players if you want to stay in PL. Favre can’t organize defence, but with players like Sancho and Håland then he can do OK job, if you don’t expect nothing at all.

Disturbing lack of Ten Hag rumours this morning

Last week 4-0 against BVB and 5-0 against PSV. I really don’t think he wants to leave mid-season (unless maybe for Barcelona but doubtful about that too).

  7. PIF has the last word on next manager and I still believe they are trying to get someone ”bigger name”. If that is impossible, then Amanda’s Fonseca probably gets the job. But hopefully they will find out if Rangnick and Ten Hag are available, because I see more potential in them as long-term staff.

The idea of changing from Bruce to Fonseca was a month ago absolutely impossible dream, but the situation has changed since then.

Who realistically is right would you say out of the ones linked ?

Ralf Rangnick is by far the best option, if he is eager to come. He’s had big influence in the new generation of German football and he is the type of manager / DoF (should be considered on both roles) who could take us to the next level. Completely different class than Favre.

  9. I’m actually happy that the new regime is carefully picking the right man for the job. If you make quick decision, you end up with someone like Fonseca or Favre - and I don’t think they are right for this club. Both of them are terrible at organizing defense and in this league you need to make sure that the back line is tight.

Almost everyone is better than Bruce and I would love to see Jones taking the interim job, because I want to see him gone. But the next manager is absolutely vital, it sets the tone for the next few years.

    W A I T

  10. If you want to get absolutely frustrated, then go for Favre. Soon you will realize what it really is. No way players like Håland would come to Favre’s team again.

He may get half good season, but he is NOT the manager to win trophies and success.

Not sure how he did overall, but one season he finished in 2nd place at 76p, 2p after BM.

You’ll find more information from this thread. NO NO NO! Amanda read this: NO to Favre!

I will be devastated if Favre gets appointed, because then I would need to get my #FavreOut hashtags back.

I think Favre would be a great choice for NUFC, for where we are and where we'd like to be after the first few years of rebuilding the club.

Read my post earlier in this thread about Favre. No, no and just no!

Ah, that's really interesting. Remember he had a great start there not losing for ages. Also did very well with Nice. Was he really that bad in the end then?

Yes, got sacked after losing 1-5 to Stuttgart at home. That was shocking result.

He fits smaller clubs, but not bigger with expectations. Had a great run at Gladbach (before Nice), but then got sacked from there too after horrible start of the season.
