  1. Celtic v Barcelona

    Lyon v Manchester United

    Schalke v Porto

    Liverpool v Inter Milan

    Roma v Real Madrid

    Arsenal v AC Milan

    Olympiakos v Chelsea

    Fenerbahce v Sevilla

That's what i'd be inclined to go with but I think Arsenal v Milan is too close to call.  I can't wait to see Kaka and Fabregas in the same game.

  2. I would say Liverpool have more chance of getting through than Arsenal, and i bet they get porto or fenerbache in the next round too.

    Depends which Liverpool turn up.

Fwiw, I think Inter are good value to win the competition at 9/1.

  3. Fuckin retards on the radio were saying that Hibs want Craig Levein and that Levein wants the job all within half an hour of Collins resignation.  So it took half an hour for the Hibs board to convene a meeting and decide who they want, tell a journalist, and for the journalist to contact Craig Levein and confirm that he wants the job.  OK then.

Fuckin gutter press get right on my nerves.  They were linking Barry Robson with a move to Burnley during the week aswell - so that's our manager and our captain both leaving according to the media.

Oh, I just realised we're playing Celtic on Wednesday.  That explains it then

  4. John Collins has resigned as Hibs manager and David Tanner on SSN is rumouring that he might replace Sanchez at Fulham...

or the scotland job...either way i doubt collins will have time to sign on the dole.

The SFA said that if they appointed somebody already in Scottish club management they would be allowed to take the job on a part time basis and fulfil their club obligations until the end of this season.

They've also just said that Collins resigning is unrelated to the vacant Scotland job.

  5. I don't buy into this "best supporters in the world" stuff.  I think the guys who have been going to watch non-league teams for years at grounds that are only good enough for dogs to p!ss and sh!te on knowing that the third round of the F.A. Cup is the pinnacle of their expectations deserve more credit than fans who watch top flight football in state-of-the-art stadia with the best facilities every week.

  6. Some of the sentiments expressed in this thread are, quite frankly, staggering.

Fuckin cheeky b@stards going abroad and getting themselves stabbed - they should be fuckin ashamed of themselves.  Imagine doing that eh?  They should have their passports confiscated for having the sheer fuckin nerve to get stabbed in a foreign country like  :idiot2:

Can we step back for a minute and remind ourselves of who's actually the bad guys here?

  7. Theres a few decent ones i think, Tranmere, east fife, dundee utd, ipswich, leeds, not forest will probably be in most of my accumulators.

Nobody will be happier than me if we win and we've got a decent record against St. Midden but we haven't been scoring lately.  I think we've got too many injuries/suspensions to go on the road and get all three.

East Fife are only 1/3 with Ladbrokes so it's hardly worth the bother unless you've got a couple at evens or better.

  8. my response to this: "meh".

If he takes England to 2010 world cup victory, my response:

If we get there and don't win it, my response: "meh"

You should all be doing fuckin cartwheels

why?  Just don't see why an appointment had to be made now.  Should have just let Brooking/Pearce do it until next summer as we have nowt to play for.  Then start the search after Euro 2008 when theres bound to be a lot of managerial movement.

There's two sides to that coin though.

If the FA had done that and ended up with whoever everybody else didn't want then they would have been panned for not acting quickly enough with Capello.  Managers of his calibre don't stay unemployed for long.

  9. £6m is a f*** load of money for someone who has zero experience of managing international teams. I haven't really followed his managerial career but hasn't he always managed amazing teams filled with talent? Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus immediately jump out. My point is, although he's good at creating winning teams (though very defensive ones at that), he's always had time to implement his schemes and was able to control the way the team plays, however, in international football, he's not going to have a whole two months to drill one of the center mids to hang back, tackle in zone a, press in zone b etc. etc. He's gonna have 10-14 days before big tournaments and 5 days before qualifying games to do all of that. Can he do it?

Who would you have appointed then?

That's not an aggressive question btw.  I'm just genuinely curious.

  10. Fixed odds is a fuckin nightmare this weekend.  Not a lot of easy money out there - too many tight games.

I've just put a daft shot on.

Sunderland v Aston Villa - Draw

West Brom v Charlton - Draw

St. Mirren v Dundee Utd - Draw

Hamilton v St. Johnstone - Draw

    Morton v Dundee - Draw

    1 x 50p fivefolds

    5 x 50p fourfolds

  11. That's your opinion mate. Mine is that the England job should be kept in house. I will not stop supporting England because of his appointment, he will get my backing now, but all i'm saying is that it is not the way I would have went.

That's fair enough but I just don't think principles are a luxury that England can afford right now, especially seeing as they've already had a foreign manager.

Personally, I think the whole McLaren carry on proves that a manager should be appointed based on his ability as a manager rather than his nationality.

  12. If the FA had appointed Harry Redknapp ahead of Fabio Capello then they would have deserved to never ever qualify for another major tournament ever again ever.

Redknapp has achieved nothing.  He wouldn't be able to bribe agents into persuading players to play for England either.

    Capello is a class act.

The two shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath.

  13. Word on the street is Man Utd are likely to make a move for Alan Hutton either in January or in the summer so Brown will be surplus to requirements.  The guy Christianson on Talksport seemed convinced of this and apparently some of the tabloids have carried the story today.

  14. Aren't England fans a bit like the stereotype Newcastle fan in that we all like attacking football above all else? The football played by Jose Mourinho, Fabio Capello and Marcello Lippi's teams isn't gung-ho enough for some. Real Madrid are said to have sacked Fabio Capello because the fans didn't like the way his team played (even though they won the title). It will be interesting to see what happens if one of the Italians gets the job.

Thats what I was thinking too.

I can't imagine Capello bringing entertaining football. I would've thought Barwick would've had that down as a prerequisite given the poor showing lately.

Entertaining football? We should be concerned about qualifying first before thinking about entertaining the crowd.

    Precisely.

    Entertaining compared to what anyway?

  15. No. Bergen, Norway

Do Charlie Miller and Robbie Winters still play for Brann Bergen?

I remember both of them from their Dundee Utd days.  Winters was a tricky winger in those days but he ended up playing as a striker.  I always felt that he left Utd too early but Aberdeen offered us a stupid amount of money + Billy Dodds for him so we had no choice but to let him go.

Charlie Miller was the biggest waste of talent i've ever seen in my life.  He was far to fond of the beer and cigarettes to realise his potential.

The amount of times i've heard my scottish mates say that about x scottish footballer is unreal...

    Too many to mention.

Charlie got away with it because he was good enough to stand out in the SPL whilst coasting along at 60% with a raging hangover.  He could have won 50 caps for Scotland if he'd applied himself but his head was fuckin burst.

Funny that, they're sheep shaggers as well and they've never really mentioned how good charlie miller was. When did he play? might have been before their time like. My knowledge of scottish football players is very patchy to be honest.

He came through Rangers' youth system during the 90s and was tipped as the next big thing but he got into bad company when Gascoigne signed and Dick Advocaat ended up punting him down to Watford.  Things didn't go well for him there either and Alex Smith brought him up to Dundee Utd in 99/00 when he almost single handedly saved us from relegation.  He was our best player for the next few years but had a habit of saving his best form for when his contract was up for renewal.  He eventually left for Norway but I don't know if he's still there.
