  1. London - Arsenal

    Birmingham - Villa

    Liverpool - Liverpool

    Manchester - City

    Sheffield - Wednesday

Glasgow - Queens Park or train to airdrie

    Wild card -  Forest

You'd be just as well supporting Rangers tbh.  The only people who go to watch Airdrie are people whose giro won't stretch to a season-ticket at Ibrox.

  2. London - West Ham (a few of my mates support them)

Birmingham - Villa (no real reason, I just dislike the others more)

Liverpool - Everton (their fans are slightly more bearable than the other lot)

Manchester - United (they've got a winning mentality and my favourite manager - no coincidence)

Sheffield - Wednesday (Dundee Utd legend Paul Sturrock used to manage there)

Glasgow - Partick Thistle (their fans are a good laugh and don't take themselves too seriously)

Wild Card - Preston (I have family there)

  3. We've got no easy games left.  France and Italy still have to play the Faroes so we've got to beat Ukraine and Georgia.  If we can do that then a point against Italy will be enough.  If we lose to Italy, and France don't win in Kiev in their last game, we'll qualify anyway.

It's no gonna be easy but if i'd been offered this scenario when the group was drawn i'd have bitten your hand off.  We've been dreadful for years and nobody (myself included) gave us a chance in this group.

    What a turnaround.

  4. While I agree it is a good start to the season I will say this. The teams that we have played haven't exactly been great. Bolton have been woeful so far this season, Villa may push for the top 10, Boro are a bottom 8 team and as are Wigan. Also none of these teams have exactly made a great start to the season, the highest placed of them is 9th and the lowest is 19th.

The real test will come against the Big 4, Spurs, Everton, Man City, Blackburn and Portsmouth.

That's my view on it aswell.

Don't get me wrong, teams of Bolton's standard would have given us a problem last season so progress is being made.

But we've had a pretty easy start to the season compared to some other teams so I feel our current league position might be artificially high.

  5. The "posession of the jersey" philisophy is all very noble and admirable but I still think the manager should pick his best players and Given is a better keeper imo.  All very well saying that Harper hasn't done anything to deserve losing his place but neither has Given - it's not his fault he got injured.

  6. Well that's an easy one for me because I like Newcastle but i'm Scottish  :coolsmiley:

I've had similar discussions though about if I had to choose between Dundee Utd  and Scotland who would it be?

I go to watch the national team occasionally at home but I just can't get excited about it in the same way that I get excited about my club.  I think international football feels a bit manufactured in the sense that it's a group of guys who don't usually play in the same team but are cobbled together for a few games a year.  A club has more of a soul in my opinion.

  7. He seems to be pretty highly rated but I hope people don't use his price tag to expect too much from him.  He's a young lad moving to a new country so it may be next season before we see the best of him.

I reckon he'll get his chances this season but he'll be used as a squad player unless he makes himself undroppable.

  8. Why is there so much spite at liverpool and its supporters? Go to any liverpool fan forum and you won't be able to find such name calling or hatred directed at any one club (other than Man U/Everton).

Probably because we don't kill people

Granted there have been liverpool fans acting like idiots but that is one of the negative side effects when you reach major finals. There will always be idiots at such games and their actions will always be associated with the club. Try reaching some major finals or winning something regularly and it's likely you guys will have the same problems.

So they behave like animals because they're successful?

That's a good excuse.  Must remember that one.

  9. Is this thread a joke? Some people need to take a look at whats happened since we lost at home to blackburn last season and then get a f****** grip. We've got everything we've asked for and we've played 2 games and are unbeaten, yet STILL some people are finding things to moan about. Oh aye, and souness spent 50million, won the title didnt we?

was that a dig at me? cos i was taking the piss mate...

nah it wasnt, I havent even read what you said. My point was just part of what BB is moaning about is the amount weve spent, when imo it means nothing when you consider souness spent 50million

If spending money means nothing (i.e. doesn't increase the chances of success), do you believe that Chelsea would have been champions twice in the last three seasons without Abramovic's oil dollars?

Do you believe Chelsea would have been able to attract the kind of players required to win titles if they weren't already in the Champions League when Abramovich took over?

You're not comparing like with like imo.

I'm not saying spending money means nothing but it is only one factor among many others.

  10. It's a tough one Bob.

There have been a lot of Premiership clubs bought over by very rich men.  They can't all qualify for Europe.  It's one thing wanting the club to spend money but it has to be on players who would improve the squad/team and they would obviously have to want to sign for us.  The alternative is to spunk £millions on average players like what West Ham are doing.  I have no desire to see Newcastle go down that road because I simply don't believe that it would get us anywhere.

  11. They've only made one good signing (Gordon) and they paid to much for him.

    Keiran Richardson is stinking.

Derby and Wigan are pretty much nailed on to go down but there will be a big rammy to avoid the 3rd relegation spot.

    I hope they go down.

    Because I don't like them.

  12. There's been loads of discussion in Scotland about this sort of thing this week.  Racism and sectarianism should be dealt with in the same way.

    How to approach it?

I know where people are coming from by saying there's only so much the clubs can do and, in all fairness, both Rangers and Celtic have made huge strides to eradicate the problem of sectarianism.  It has worked at their home matches but their travelling support still persist with their inappropriate behaviour.

However, I believe that the best way to deal with it IS to punish the clubs.  Fine them, ban them from competitions, dock them points.  Supporters like to support a successful team and by pinning the clubs success to the behaviour of the fans in this way the so-called silent majority will be more inclined to root out the trouble makers and sort it out themselves.  This is the only way in my opinion - we have to force home the message that if you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem.
