The funniest thing about that thread is they seem to think the people in B&W tops are people from Newcastle visiting Sunderland. The thought that it actually might be locals hasn't dawned on them, it seems.

I'm a realist bud. Unlike you, who wears black and white goggles when it comes to literally anything to do with NUFC or the city in general.

Why is moving to Leazes Park a "relocation"? It's literally shifting a stadium a couple of hundred yards north. Nothing, absolutely nothing, about the matchday experience would change.

Disagree I'm afraid, I think it is true. The 2nd point is very relevant too. It could quite easily come to a point where the owners come to the fanbase and say "we want to build a super-stadium, with amazing views, hospitality, facilities & accoustics but simply cannot do it on this site.. However just up the road..............." At that point, the support will have a choice to make. And if they turn it down, it's not inconceivable that this could be the point at which the Saudis plot their exit.

I was thinking more of the new infrastructure that they have fitted to it. It would be easy to fit a completely different facade to SJP but have it structurally similar to the Bernabeu.

The all-new Bernabeu is anything but shit. That would be my template for a new stadium.

The report in The Times said that the club are looking to extend capacity to 62k. People have taken this to mean building a new East Stand which achieves this capacity on its own, but I think the club are including the Gallowgate expansion in this too. There's no way that the East Stand land area will allow a stand which provides around a 200% increase in it's own capacity. I'm sure the authorities would allow St James Terrace to be sacrificed and the East Stand footprint to move closer to Leazes Terrace if the light issue can be resolved. The real problem for me is that 62k simply isnt enough seats, and at that point the club truly will be locked in at that site.

St James' Terrace is Grade II.

A crime. It's a small and inconsequential building in a part of town that nobody visits. Even the guy who owns it is willing to see it go. Just knock the fucker down. Honestly, the way some people talk about these buildings you'd think that that it was Grey Street that was under threat.

It wouldnt be destroyed. The vast majority of the new stadium would be on the land just behind the park. The park could then be extended, by converting the existing SJP land into parkland.

The fans want the stadium to stay in the city centre. That is the unnegotiable part. The vast majority of the fanbase would accept relocation to Leazes Park. And if this feasiblity study rules out East Stand redevelopment then I think it's nailed on that the move will be outlined to the supporters. There may well be a point in the near future when the fanbase are going to have to decide how far they want this club to go and what sacrifices they want to make to get there.

The guy who owns St James' Terrace is interviewed here and all but admits he'd sell it to the club if they wanted to bulldoze it. He also believes it would be allowed to be demolished.

Also agree with this though. The feasibility study could be the catalyst for a new stadium behind Leazes Park.

Yep, this seems looks very much how SJP will end up looking I reckon. They will do the Gallowgate when the club's profile & never ending demand for tickets justifies the costs.

It will be aimed at the TikTok generation and those who aren’t steeped in decades-old match going habits….be they locals or out of towners. And not everyone out on a Saturday in town is a radgie you know.

It will be rammed with the younger generation of fans, who drink on the Bigg Market/Gate/Collingwood Street on a Saturday night. The old farts will continue to drink in Haymarket/St Andrew’s Street.

No chance. It will all happen in one development I think, albeit maybe in stages. Jamie Reuben already stated in that recent podcast that stadium expansion was an important part of growing the club.

This video is interesting. According to someone in the comments the Gallowgate land is going to be called "Sela City Zone" and they are even considering building a tunnel from St James Boulevard to bypass traffic away from that area. Whatever happens, it looks like the land is going to be significantly different from the usual bog-standard fan zone.
  19. The bitterness and rage on RAWK and Red Cafe is delicious. Football is dead apparently.
  20. Did I just see that right? Man City score in the CL final and some of their fans just standing there filming it with their phones????
  21. The rules won't let them chuck that kind of money at us though.
  22. Mainly because the opportunity to play at the highest level would remain for every single team in the English pyramid, albeit granted that it would be more difficult to get in. But taking this season, every team down to West Ham would have played in such a league, with Chelsea, Wolves and West Ham relegated and still replaced by Burnley, Sheff Utd and Luton.
  23. They wouldn't be though, that's the point. You could have a PL consisting of maybe 14 English teams and 6 European teams. The 3 relegation spots to the Championship would still be there for English teams and a 4th relegation spot for the lowest placed Euro team, who get relegated back to their home league system. It would be like having two leagues combined into one, all fighting for the same prize. I could probably stomach having 6 foreign teams in the PL as long as the old domestic rivalries remained unaffected. In reality though a midweek Super League will be what happens, if it ever comes back on the table.
  24. Dunno mind. The fans of clubs like Bournemouth and Crystal Palace probably wouldn't be averse to having the opportunity of being in a league with Barcelona, whilst still maintaining the domestic game & facing their traditional rivals, with relegation and promotion unaffected. I think all bets are off with regards to what happens over the next 5 years tbh. It feels like the game is about to go truly global and there will be an astronomical amount of money behind it all.
  25. The only reason those two are not wanted is because of their sectarian support. And if they wanted in, they would have to earn it through sporting merit, as they wouldn't be one of the clubs from the other leagues who get a free invite on formation. They could also be relegated from it if they don't meet the standard, as they'd very likely finish bottom of the "euro league" that existed within the PL.
