Winning silverware is very difficult now. Even the cups are being dominated by the big six. The two minor European trophies are probably the easiest, because the best teams aren't involved.
I think Howe will continue to exceed all realistic expectations, but winning something will depend on good recruitment and that bit of luck. He shouldn't be measured on trophies alone.
Good post. But I have to ask; My impression is that the new owners came in with the ambition to win silverware within 5 years. Judging by your last paragraph I don’t get the feeling this will happen within 5 years or even the next decade.

Well, it does matter. Playing sides we are likely to beat, BEFORE we meet the top sides, can really build momentum.

On the back of a remarkable season 22/23, and some of the hype afterwards, I’m not particulary impressed with this season tbh.
Sadly, we have been plauged with injuries and fatigue, which has made us vulnerable and inconsistent.
Compared to the Ashley-era saying this is just plain stupid, but in light of the owners 5-year plan to win something we do seem a bit off-track.
My biggest fear however, is witnessing how rigged and corrupt the system is when clubs outside of the «established elite» try to compete. It does seem like an impossible task.
We have to get an end to that Ca$hworth-saga and move on. I’m looking forward to the new season, but I’m not as optimistic as some to a top 5 placing.

That Ashby kid not good enough to keep as backup?

Man City better fix this

DCL played 38 games last season. Isn't that more than Isak?
Edit: Isak played 40.
Point still stands. DCL had a very good season, appearance wise
He’s been plauged by injuries, man.
If he signs… oh man… his inj. Record and our medical setup will make him a paralympic before kick-off come august. -
Like fuck we should NOT get DCL. He’s the very definition of injury proness.
If we should learn ANYTHING from this season is to stay fit. -

My normal go to for that sort of thing is Emerton or Boa Morte. Convinced we were signing both of them back in the day.
Ah, Yes! I remember those days. May I spice your memory with this little gem that sprung to mind: Sylvain Marveaux

I’d given you 10/10 if you’d said Bas Dost

Three quality players in for ~35m before the Euros even start is hella good business.
Three? Geordie mama, Kelly and…..?

Potter back to Brighton,anyone?

Are we in Europe next season?

Why shift Pope? He’d more than good enough for a few more years.
Dubs on the other hand… I have my doubts…. -
Jo f’ing Selu…. Wake me up from my coma

How fucked up are you (Ca$hworth) if he thinks he can dictate and intervene the buy-out price we demanded?
I’m sure Manure will win this because the whole system is rigged and corrupt anyway.
-
YESSSSSSSSSS!!
-
I can see why they need Ca$hworth. Unfortunely, and hopefully, Manure will continue to sink… and stink.
-
-
I expect them to put Man City out of business then….

Just the general atmosphere but would like to see Ipswich come up. I point the idea of a team where the money would make a massive difference to them.
I can relate to that. If I remember correctly SBR managed them for many years Thanks for the tip! Might sign up for Championship next season

I’ve really enjoyed the championship this season to be honest, tried getting into rugby but the best thing about it is it’s 10 minutes shorter.
Any team you follow in particular, or just the general atmosphere?

Anything suggest other clubs (like us) will be able to compete with the top 6, or are these new regulations a way to further ensure domination?
Have to admit; I have barely bothered watching English football this season.
Much more looking forward to the Norwegian football starts.
Think I’m all out next season if the game continues to be rigged (corrupt) for the top 6.

Howe is pushing the players way too hard. Injuries all over the place.
Not sure how far he can take this team. FFP isn’t doing us any favours either.

By which you could argue the restrains (FFP, caps, fair punishment for breaking said rule etc. ) should apply more to the so-called top-six rather than the rest tbh.
I’m afraid in the long run going on like now will hurt the rep. of football rather than strengthen it.
Football is more about business than sport these days, but the rules are preventning anyone from competing with the elite.
And I think that the tweet, and the reponse to that, highlights this very real and serious problem.
