Following on from the manager 5 a side team yesterday, whats the best XI of footballers in their prime, ever to play for us at some point?

                           Given

    Trippier  Campbell  Woodgate   Pearce

    Beardsley   Gascoigne  Keegan   Waddle

                    Rush    Shearer

Quite attacking heavy. A couple in there who were possibly the best in the world at a point in time.

I'd definitely replace Waddle with Barnes or Ginola, and Rush with Kluivert or Owen

    Bench:

    Pope

    Coloccini

    Albert

    Batty

    Ben Arfa

    Isak

    Asprilla

  2. The thing is, accepting any offer could be an opening the floodgates moment, because if you let the crown jewels in Isak go, you're telling everyone that you're not intending to be number 1 like Yasir originally said. It affects the selling and can disrupt morale internally as then Tonali, Botman and Bruno and others who were sold the dream might want to follow suit - whereas they may not have had any intention previously.

I hope that Tonali and whoever we play at RW have the interchangeability of Big Joe and Willock last season, meaning Sandro will be out wide whipping in crosses will the RW (Gordon or whoever we buy) will be drifting inside. Also think from a wider position he will be able to thread balls to Isak similar to the Murphy assist yesterday

Watched a Tonali highlight video recently of his time this season and there is plenty to be excited, good on the ball, good energy and comfort on the ball.

A mid of Big Joe, Bruno and Tonali could be a menace both attacking and will have the energy to help defensively.

If we smash the transfer window we will be challenging for top 4 imo

Honestly think if we have a proper transfer window with 3-4 key signings and all of our players back (and no-one key sold) and we can actually challenge for the title.

Liverpool may struggle with a new management and new identity

Arsenal may drop off if they either win this year (as achieved their aim), or fall just short (as did Liverpool the year after quadruple flopped)

Man City will be there or thereabouts but it sounds like the 115 charges are now about to be heard and it could be deadly

Villa are looking good but may struggle with balancing CL with PL especially with lack of experience, like us.

Man U - nowhere near - not in the conversation - even if they get a new manager

Chelsea are improving but need a few more seasons to mature

    Spurs, not consistent enough

Whatever you think of this season, our XG, our performances, everything for the most part has been very strong - it's the luck of the cup draws and the devastating injuries that have destroyed the season - even then we're doing very well to be where we are.

Obviously, this season isn't as remarkable as last, but he's basically had to work with 3 fit midfielders for the last 5 months. For a team that needs energy and snap, it's impressive we've got to where we are despite very few options to rotate, make in-game changes, or even manage legs in a match in what is probably the most important area of the pitch.

That’s why Bruno Gordon and Schar deserve huge credit this season, they’ve done a lot of heavy lifting across the entire spine.

120m is way to low. Strikers are expensive.

    Agreed

every club in the league would want him

    120m isn’t that much anymore

not even in his prime yet

    180-220m

Osimhen who is comparable as a finisher is linked with clubs for 150m

I think he’s the most talented player I’ve seen at us. I don’t really see anyone who comes close aside from Beardsley.

Raw talent alone and Ben Arfa is up there

It’s not based on three-year rolling losses anymore - it’s based on % of turnover.

Oh didn't realise that - in that case we will probably resign Shefki Kuqi, Riviere and Fumaca (on loan)

  8. The January 2022 relegation battle splurge (Wood, et al) will drop off

    Almiron is almost certainly gone

    Possibly Wilson

Lots of high earners out - Dubravka, Ritchie etc

100m net spend I can certainly see happening - we did that back in 2016 in the Mitrovic Wijnaldum window.

Think PIF will sense an opportunity this summer as a changing of the guard, Klopp out, Man U's struggles, in conjunction with this season's struggles etc - it made sense after the success of last year to continue with the same squad - but one year on, they will want to continue the speed of acceleration in my opinion

If we have that type of money to spend on an attacker it has to be on right winger

Getting Olise and Eze for around 90m both in plus a sell on clause would be good business and transform us as an attacking force.

Add Sesko and the two freebie CBs in Kelly and Tosin and honestly a great summer.

A backup GK on loan would be fine until January or next summer.

  10. After seeing Eze I would love to get him, better version of Maddison. Olise too would be awesome for that RW.

If Andersen wasn't as old as he is, he could be good for RCB, a like for like to put pressure on Schar

I love his mentality. I also like the fact the club have let him have his way in terms of not weight training and not having treatment/massage etc.

Wasnt expecting him to have so much depth and maturity. Didn’t really have an assumption based on his reputation but just for his age. It’s rare.

Was interesting to hear him talking about different things he works on and staying after training. I think he would be next level on the RW. Beating players down the line and walking into the box or putting a cross in for Isak. I prefer Barnes on the left just due to his shooting/finishing. I’d prefer him doing the cutting in and the 1-2 through ball. I love that Neville brought up Pires as a right footed left winger who almost never went down the line and you couldn’t even picture him crossing on his left. Gordon isn’t that limited with his weak foot and I’ve seen him put a few crosses in on his left. Definitely not as predictable as Miggy on the other side who’s completely one footed and always cutting in.

We’ve been very lucky with Isak, Bruno, Gordon, Tino. Hope to add Hall to that list next season. Would be nice to get in a cornerstone CB this summer and have one of those at each major position moving forward.

    exciting times!

Interesting that he's based a lot of the visualisation stuff on Salah, who he said is a player he really looks up to and wants to emulate

If Gordon ends up being our Salah, that would be quite something

  12. Honestly, it's really shown INEOS to be a joke. What's the point of best-in-class hires if your project can't really get started until 2026. Arguably Ashworth as the guy to tie everything together would have been the first in the door, to lay the foundations and strategy.

If the amount we want is 20m and they offered 10m as a starting point, negotiating can commence. If you're starting at 2m - you'd think the other party aren't serious and you'd walk away for such an insulting offer. 20m or no deal.

Here is another thing that pisses me off about PSR rules. As fans we suffered for years under Ashley's penny pinching regime. The only "benefit" of this was that the accounts were in decent order for the new owners to be able to initially spend when they came in.  Now they can't do that any more. But Chelsea were heavily in debt to their owner because of heavy spending on their squad and they would have been heading for trouble under the current rules, but as they were bought they got a free pass to wipe all this debt out. The rationale behind this has never been clear to me, but it has clearly allowed Chelsea, who were already had a stronger squad to build upon, to vastly out spend Newcastle and give themselves a big advantage with no PSR punishment. Yet.

This is true and completely ridiculous. Chelsea have literally had sugar daddy blow-everyone-out-of-the-water owners not once but twice in a lifetime. Jammiest club going.

At least Abrahamovic has gone who was actually a sane serious successful owner with a plan - like the Man City guys.

Hearing Jim Radcliffe has ordered the government to force us to sell him to England United for £1.

Yes it would be great to have a Harry Kane of the North

  15. Due to Anderson and Mileys emergence,  I really do think Longstaff has never been more dispensable. We don’t lose the local feel as we will still have Burn and the others. In fact as pure profit for FFP anything he brings in would have a bigger impact and prevent too much pressure on needing to get rid of more purple players. It’s a perfect storm. He’s done a great job but it feels like when Lee Clark left, it was the right time.

  16. To be fair, their wanting Isak (because of Henry) is like us wanting Paqueta because of Bruno

It's not really grounded in reality, it's just what the fans want

The reality is the club probably can't afford it.

Isak is up there with Osimhen, Mbappe, Haaland as the most expensive strikers in the world.

Osimhen may be up for sale this summer - that's it as far as the uber elite go.
