If we want to be one of the challengers we have to get an aspirational figurehead signing upfront Isak really suited the optics behind the PIF project because he was literally one of the best not yet elite strikers around and so it gave us credibility as a serious place for signings. Bruno and Tonali also have that gravitas. It needs a Lautaro Martinez or Osimhen or that ilk to rebuild that aura. We have a big problem for youngsters because of the rules etc Either you’re a Brighton or Bournemouth and you’re actively clear in your pitch, you’ll be first choice and be sold within 2-3 seasons if you do well or you’re an elite club and you go for the top echelon of elite talents eg Real Madrid getting Arda Guler or Chelsea signing Estevao etc We are in that messy middle which aren’t either so we end up with sloppy seconds or established PL players Last summer proved we are not elite so we need to go the rich mans Brighton approach

Anderson that season looked incredible in pre season and was unfortunate he injured his back which put him out for months - that would have been his opportunity to get established in the first team and show us exactly what he was about. Joelinton or Willock may have been sold sooner to keep hold of him. He did have some good games though eg the one against spurs where he played left wing

Barca fans who have been blessed with top wingers will get on his back very quickly. Gordon is worse than Rashford.
