His agent said this after we failed in Jan -

He told French title L'Equipe via Inside Futbol : “We were not convinced about the sports project and we saw no short or medium-term plan with their approach.

“Hugo has achieved great things in just six months but as he is attached to the club, we agreed with the leaders to end the season with Reims.”

    Translated

Then: "We think they'll end up relegated."

Now:  "They're rich, I want to get paid too!"

  2. Don't know why every player has to be painted with a broad brush, ie: Don't want players from X.  It has to be much more nuanced than that.  How old?  What style/tactics did his team play?  Will his skills transfer to how we play? On and on.  That is why we have scouts and other evaluators.  Identify a pool of players that fit our needs and winnow it down to players who become targets.  If you see a player that has skills that you can use who cares where they came from?

Beats the days of sending a Northumberland street pigeon over to clubs with a message of will you take a tenner and a SD mug under Ashley and Charnley…

Or that month when Charnley forgot to load the paper in the fax machine...

  4. I'm quite happy with the signing.  Played every minute since he signed really helped the defense tighten up.  I also think he became more effective offensively as the season progressed.  Damn good value too.

  5. I took over and the club and it slid down the table.  One window was never going to be enough to get back up.  Getting back to fifth, let alone promoted was never in my remit..."

  6. Sissoko would have been best played as a BtB mid.  He had the athleticism and the drive to have been very successful.  Breaking up play in front of the back line and making late runs into the box suited him to a tee.   Pardew looked at his pace and tried to move him wide and he wasn't technical enough to do well there.

  7. Let's face it, ASM was Brewced, but in a different way.  Whereas other players were (non)coached and played very passively I can see where Brewce threw a meaty arm around ASM's shoulder and told him he was the key to the offense.  Constantly taking him aside, bigging him up, and telling him he was the star.

Howe comes on board and ASM has to not only change his game but he lost the ego boosting of Brewce.  Honestly, any player eval under Cabbagehead has to be tossed out.  The difference between running a sports car on cheap gas and the good stuff.
