ah man, he was only a poor little Hammer

was in the centre paddock.the day jack Charlton, climed the barrier to confront fans beside the tunnel for booing the team off. New years day was it 80, or81 against the Makems to come from behind and win 3-1, and the mayhem down the alley. and the 3-1 new years day 85, beardsley hat-trick and the sendings off, great stuff.

I was also at that one. Which game did we play at home when the flood lights went out? Was it Man City? cant remeber, but which game did we play at home when the scoreboard worked?
-
the ground was dreadful in the rain, there wasn't anywhere to stand that was shelterd. not even the bogs.

the two vists of Supermacs Fulham side 82-84 were quite memorable, think we lost the first one, 4-1 and keegan missed a penalty. second one, we went from 2-1 to win 3-2 in the last min. Im fairly sure that was the first match for a certain Gimp bloke.

It was still s***, a bit like him really. you lie. he was like our beckenbauer for a few seasons, got a few goals one year aswell.

deffo the 80's. Except for the fighting which was pretty horrific at times. it did late 80's. but mostle involved a group of kids in fila tracksuit tops running sideways and landing poor punches on retreating tacchini clad youths. anyone who travelled away independently (mainly train) in the early to mid 80's would at sometime have felt that adrenalin rush of something about to kick off. went to lot away games in my Fila in the 80s Mad, it was always ' about to kick off' but rarely, if ever did. i remember quite a bit kicking off the season we got promoted. man city especially. never got to man city that season, but the home game was awesome. PB was on fire. btw it did go off a lot, it was a bit like my football playing at the time,... always in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yep sure is. was seeing my mates sister while he was playing for the Toon.

Do a Google for "Trelford Mills" and go to the youtube link. just watched 5 mins of the second half. we were all over them, never saw the highlights, was in the E-wing that night. Im gonna watch both halves tonight , as im on my way out. saw some other interesting clips there as well. We were Robbed -Trelford, 26 years and it still grates.
-
astro turf, weren't we 4-0 up at half time?
-
He probably did, was he the ref against Brighton in the cup? aye, im sure the whole crowd was singing its a fix at the end.
-
Didnt trelford get banned from St James for his own safety?
-
sorry to the under 35s, but us oldies need somewhere to remember, before we die. as its started off in an other thread. The era of Fighting on the terraces, massive unlimited away followings, shit grounds, people pissing on the crush barriers, crowds spilling onto the pitch. The Good old days. whats your memories. the obvious first one for me KKs debut, 82, the first time i started going to the match with my mates, after going with my dad since eraly 70s. Them Fa cup ties, Brighton at home ,trelford mills, Liveropol84, spurs 85, the endless dull games against watford, was it3 or 4 replays? And some great away days at Roker.....
-
that spurs game, i think was the following season, R5,. I think in the 80s the police had decided whoever turned up to a game was getting in, regardless of numbers/ capacity of away end, white heart lane was mental that day, i got squashed against a fence, lost my dad, and had to watch the game from the top of the fence.
-
your right about that bloke planting a toon flag in the centrespot, before kickoff. also remember plod. wielding the big truncheons from horseback and people dropping like flies.
-
It was a Friday night which made it even better, wasn't it the first 3rd round game to be shown live on TV? aye thats the one., we had 3-4 windows put out on our coach, and had to come back through sleet and big open windows.
-
Prob most proud, Anfield Jan '84. 4-0 fA cup live on TV. Never ever heard the Geordies sing so loud for the whole match. Scousers were just in awe the whole game.

worth a bump ahead of a game

Wrong, You go and pay good money to watch that week in week out. Wrong. I don't. Wrong. I meant, you go and watch that s*** and I'll stick to trying to watch teams attempt to play football. Wrong. I have no intentions of going to watch it, I am saying it's an effective tactic for these teams rather than just something which can't be classed as football. Wrong. I just wanted to join in. Correct. Wrong. Awesome. Banana Orange. Phil Brown^^
