  1. I think the current setup opens up a lot more room and time for him as ASM and Almiron are afforded more room in forward areas and have to be accounted for. ASM consistently takes multiple defenders out of the game on his runs and Shelvey can get up the pitch and receive the ball with room further up.

The change in formation has really suited everyone really well. No idea why it took the manager so long to try it out.

    He did, we got massacred.

Yeah, as a manager you don't just change it for 5 mins and then switch back again.

He's supposed to actually commit to it and you know, maybe coach the team? Afterall it's working now isn't it?

    Ridiculous comment.

    Rough Monday morning?

I agree - he should commit to it and coach it. Which he seemingly has done now, and it's working.

You asked why it took him so long to try it out. He did try it out. And it fell flat on its arse.

He tried it before, badly, and it didn't work. He's now tried it properly, and it's worked.

Not sure what's "ridiculous" about that.

    I'm fine

Changing it one game is not trying it is my point.

Whatever he has supposedly done now could and should have been done previously.

    Absolutely.

That's why he's not a very good coach.

Glad he's got it working, though.

  4. He's changed my mind and think he has justified a contract extension no matter who owns, manages and plays for the club next season. I think he's a good addition to the team. He's a senior player in a relatively young squad, knows the club and the people within it well. As far as I can see he is a good communicator on the pitch and assume he is the same in training as well, and he's a good option to have on the bench - look at the way he took down the ball, controlled it, looked up and passed the ball to Gayle against Villa - excellent play!

I wouldn't go that far. While I could see the logic in signing him for a side who's only ambition is to survive, I would like to think if we are taken over we'll be bringing in better standards, and better players similar to Man U and Chelsea. Not sure I see the point in having him here unless it's a goodwill thing, and he's showing more maturity to be an example for younger players.

If we are taken over, he's extremely low-risk. Very low wages compared to what we'll be able to afford.

The worst damage he could do would be to take up a squad place for six months, which I don't think is a bad thing. As you say, he gets what the club is about and he is a known quantity. You know he can influence games (when fit) and when you sign someone, no matter how good, how they'll perform for your club is still unknown.

I would have zero issues with a one year extension takeover or not, even though we'd clearly be fishing in a much bigger pond of talent if we were to be taken over.

  5. He'll be replaced - and should be, let's be honest. He's not a manager to take you where the club will want to go, and never will be.

Having said all that, I've been impressed with how he's done in some areas this season. Defensively, I expected us to collapse, but we're disciplined and motivated, and he even seems to have sorted getting us back to a back four without looking like the team is suffering from late-stage rabies.

I'm also impressed with how well he's conducted himself amidst a back drop of a lot of pressure and speculation. He's been very polite and professional. It's slightly tragic that I even have to say that as a positive, but post-Pardew, Kinnear and Carver, it's worth mentioning.

Still, replacing him is the only way to go - but I wish him all the best for the future.

  6. Love flight radar me like, spent ages on it like a right sad twat.

Wonder if this one is popping down to Mike's gaff to get the keys for St James'.

That's the one that flew in from Stansted this morning.

There was a Dassault private jet this morning that took off from Teeside, then circled Scarborough a few times, then went out over the North Sea doing random loops before flying back in.

    I was fascinated by it.

I really need to sort my life out.

  7. Wild speculation...

    - Saudi's look to buy Man Utd and fail

    - Staveley approaches them and gets them tentatively on board for US

    - She negotiates and gets a deal to about 95% (does all the leg work etc)

    - She just needs the Saudi's to give a go

    - They still want Man Utd so MBS tells his biographer to leak the deal

    - if this makes Man Utd sell he buys them, if they still not interested he buys us

    Your username is highly applicable.

  8. This feels like the game when we had two sendings off under Carver, and he accused Williamson of doing so deliberately.

If we get a major tanking here, hopefully it'll have the same effect and it'll be the end of the line.

    It won't be though.

  9.                   Dubravka

              Schar Lascelles Coloccini

    Debuchy                              Enrique

                    Cabaye  Tiote

                      Ben Arfa

                      Cisse  Ba

    This.

  10. You should have turned down the free tickets, not our fault you chose to watch it.

I would 100% turn down free tickets to one of our games at the minute.

I've turned down two sets of free tickets through work this season so far.

  11. Some so-called Newcastle fan just been on Talk Sport backing Ashley’s tenure (‘we could have done a Leeds’) and slagging off Rafa for poor transfers. Simon Jordan following up with the ‘Mike’s had to put a load of his own money in’ line. I know I shouldn’t listen to that station but that call particularly made my blood boil.

It will be a mackem on a wind up or Charnley ringing in. Mind you I bet there are still insane NUFC supporters out there that do actually believe it.

He had a Geordie accent. Didn’t sound that Mackem, for what it’s worth. There was some suggestion that he’d phoned in before under a different name though. He denied it and they tried to find the tape of it but unfortunately couldn’t. Could be a WUM I guess. Certainly wound me up.

Guy I work with is an absolute muppet from Westerhope.

Believes Rafa was "past it anyway with his negative tactics" and that Ashley has stabilised the club financially, and whilst he'd prefer if Ashley went, you don't know the new owner would be any better.

Said he can't wait for the Arsenal game to get back to SJP.

This is what we're dealing with.

  12. Just read an exchange between Caulkin and some default egg cunt. What is it with this attitude that journalists are in some way a service to fans, where demands to answer questions, provide sources etc are all fine and well? Utterly bizarre.

An increasing number of today's population are borderline brain-dead, is why.

  13. Jumped on the metro as usual but ended up heading into town the long way round due to a delay. Pulled up at Howdon and as I looked out of the window I noticed two magpies.  Im sure one of them winked at me and nodded. It had that look on its face "divvnt worry bonny lad, its happening" as it nodded.
