Call me the forum misery if you wish, but I still thought there was a distinct lack of a songbook going throughout the game until 10 mins from the end. It really is incredible to me that the Blaydon Races has all but vanished from our songbook to be honest.

Having said that, you can't fault the support yesterday in terms of urging the team on and cranking up the hostility to the opposition. But this thread was never created as a response to a lack of that anyway. IMO we have still lost the knack of keeping an atmosphere going through songs and I'm sticking to that, despite yesterday, and we really do need that large singing section at SJP.

No doubt it, when the ground gets going it's still impressively loud but there just needs to be much more consistency and only a major reshuffle of seats/standing areas can bring that about.

Blaydon Races was belted out in the Gallowgate, tbf. but the pace it was sung at I'll forgive you for missing it

Google just told me Sabitzer is on way more than that, from £110k to £165k or even £211k a week. Even at the lower end, he would be at least amongst our highest earners.

Our entire back 5 yesterday would have cost less than a Maguire

he gets paid in instalments, so it doesn't really count.

    :crazy2:

I don't even think the low number is a negative, it's only good news imo. If it's a success I'm sure it'll expand.

what do you think the club would define as a success?

it might be enough to get the H&S nerds off their back with regards to people illegally standing. hopefully that's not the only reason they're doing it.

  4. class to finally have some movement on this, but lets not forget that it was already decided in the summer  a more cynical man might suggest any fan engagement around this was a PR stunt.

they've had architects in most weeks since the season finished.

converting 2/3rds of the away section into safe standing as soon as the license gets approved, at a cost of £100 per seat. will be looking at other areas after that, strawberry corner and sections of the gallowgate obvious candidates.

it's a start though! I'll be applying to move down there if there's an option.

Thought it was interesting how much Howe mentioned that he can do a good job on the left wing.

You wouldn't move him from the striker position at the moment mind

don’t say that too loud. that nutjob will be in here again claiming Isak isn’t a striker and can’t play upfront by himself :idiot2:

I just find the 'no one raises human rights in relation to F1, golf...' craic a bit grim, mackemesque even.

it was a genuine question, to be fair. I don't follow F1 anywhere near as closely as Newcastle, so hadn't seen anything.

Fly Saudia is now a partner of Aston Martin F1 team.

Looks like they’re ready to make an impact on a global scale, you’d assume they’re favourites for our shirt.

does anybody kick up a stink about Saudi's involvement in F1? they're all over it

I couldn't understand why he didn't get a shout off Pope.

I was sat thinking 'easy collection for Pope', then all of a sudden sat wondering what the fuck had just happened.

are we certain he didn't get a shout? it looked like keepers all day long. I thought there must have been one and that's why Tripps was so frustrated with himself.

The fans have a sense of what's needed, we knew that yesterday was a great chance to make a fresh start for the second half of the season and get the win.

I think expecting people to just constantly be loud is not going to happen, but hoping that people get behind the team at the key moments is probably more realistic.

not sure I agree. first half was good, because we were all over them and you could sense it was only a matter of time before we got a goal or two. second half things didn't get going until after we scored our second. I'd argue the start of the second half and after their goal were key moments, but the atmosphere was poor.

doesn't help people take 15 minutes to get back to their seat after HT like.

overall it was good, but I think the main issue is that it's just too reflective of whatever it happening on the pitch. if we're on top, creating chances, pressing defenders etc the crowd get into it and are loud and supportive. which is class, but not every game is like that so we need to do a bit more.

Ashley the genius businessman.  It’s extraordinary to me that the deal was signed in 2021 - months before the takeover was finalised (and was clearly ongoing in the background) - yet no-one  on the buyers’ side seems to have told Ashley that signing such a shithouse deal might be damaging.

wouldn't be surprised if he knew exactly what he was doing. he's an ugly, fat, spiteful manbaby

However, the amount of people who had no idea about safe standing was staggering. Their general knowledge of SJP and the club was poor and it didn’t fill me with confidence of what the club will inevitably implement.

any time I'm exposed to a large number of our fans and their opinions/behaviour I always feel like I'm on an entirely different planet. easy to forget that this place is a total echo-chamber.

Sounds unsurprisingly like the old, know-it-all "I've been here since 197x" brigade who sit silently and hate any kind of change will put the dampeners on this to me.

aye same, although it's encouraging that most people would back it, as long as it doesn't affect them of course

I think it goes without saying they're going to convert the Strawberry corner. but the point about them needing to poll all fans is absolutely spot on, they need to understand the demand. the corner alone isn't enough, that only solves the clubs health and safety headache. I hope this is about more than that, but like you Guv I'm not confident.
