I take his point, but 1 more win not only means that Burnley need to win at least 2 (and pick up a point elsewhere), but it means that Everton need to win at at least 2 (possibly 3 depending on GD) for the final day to have any significance. Add in a couple of draws and they'll both need at least 3 wins from 8, for us to still be in play on the final day. Even then, Burnley would have to beat us and Everton would need to win at Arsenal to relegate us. All of this also assumes Leeds will be safe by then as well.

Burnley have 4 wins in 29 and Everton 3 wins in 24.

Realistically the only way that they both catch us if we don't win again this season.

Yes I do agree with that, for us to be in trouble we have to not win again, which is pessimistic to the extreme

Hopefully we can win tomorrow night and everyone can just relax a little

That would require us to pick no more points before we play them though.

I think you've misunderstood his point

If say we pick up 4 points before the Burnley game and Burnley pick up 4 more than us (so 8 points) then they overtake us with a win on the last day

It reminds of last season and Fulham, they just needed to gain 3 points or so on us to take it to the last day

    Seven points.
For some reason you are already assuming they've won their game in hand.

He's saying they need 4 more points than us prior to that game, if they do that and then beat us they will pass us

  4. Yeah, I'd go Everton win as that means Burnley stay 10 behind us with only 1 game in hand

Obviously I hope we can win on Friday, followed by Leeds bearing Watford on Saturday and then Norwich beating Burnley on Sunday

That would be the ideal set of results

  5. Talk of replacing him is absolutely ludicrous.

If he keeps us up (as looks likely) then that is one hell of an achievement all things considered.

There is talk of if we want to kick on we need to reevaluate but in my mind if we want to kick he needs to be given a squad capable of doing so.

There's not another manager in the league that will kick this squad on so why expect that of Howe. He was backed in January and he more than repaid that.

He needs to be backed in the summer and then we can see how much potential he has.

Is it not time for PIF to revaluate the manager at the end of the season.

Howe was never the number one target. And his tactics in the second half of the spurs game

was just blown out of the water.

Should Chelsea reevaluate Tuchel at the end of the season.

His tactics in the second half of the Brentford game was just blown out of the water.

I’ve not mentioned Fraser like.  I’d happily see Fraser sold next season while I want ASM in the first team.

there’s not much to discuss with Fraser.  He’s definitively not good enough for us.  Back-up next season at best. Sign Raph and Lingard and Fraser can go.

ASM has the potential to go to the very top.

I know you didn't, I should have been clearer for the reasons I brought him up.

Fraser doesn't get double marked yet there is next to no impact from him.  Fraser doesn't get anywhere close to the grief that ASM does, it was similar to the times when HBA got more grief than Obertan/Ryan Taylor.

Players like ASM will get that because they are an easy target, they see a dribble attempt fail and that's an obvious (but short sighted) thing to have a go at him.

Get in a top striker and RW, then I think we'll see more consistency from ASM.

You can double up on ASM because he’s not going to pass.  He attempts the most take-ons in the league by a distance.

Completed more passes than Fraser (27 to 23) and he completed more dribbles, 4 from an attempted 10 versus Fraser who didn't attempt a single one

ASM would genuinely get less stick if he played like Fraser, Obertan, Ryan Taylor etc, just run to the full back and then pass back

Funny exchange over there earlier today

Mackem: It would be okay if one of them was honest and said they don’t really give a shit about the HR abuses and want PIF to spend loads of money on the team.

Newcastle fan comes on and mostly obliges saying how we can’t control who owns us and we just want what’s best for the team. Pile-on commences.

How ironic, if they were honest the vast majority of them would admit they'd be delighted if they got this takeover

  10. Some ending to the Algeria-Cameroon game

Algeria levelled on the night on 118 mins to go 2-1 ahead on agg, then Cameroon scored on 124 mins to make it 2-2 and go through on away goals

Think I prefer Ipswich beating Plymouth as it pulls them within 3 of the mackems.

    They could finish 9th.

I think a Plymouth win would have been better as they play Oxford next so one or both will drop points, which helps the Mackems

Though the game after is the Mackems away to Oxford, huge game for them

Does nobody else think we are being sold short by our Regional BBC Radio Station.
Newcastle fans can listen to every game on the premium FM network.
We get FM when nufc and nufc u23s are not playing.

We are told there are ways to listen to the SAFC games by DAB and TV 719.
If this is such a good alternative why don't nufc fans have to do this?

    And another reply

Not just radio, but our friends at Look North also. On a Monday they show interviews with Howe and Wilder and then we are afforded exactly the same air time as Hartlepool, Harrogate etc, with all due respect we are the joint biggest club in the region but we're nothing but a lower league afterthought. You can bet your bottom dollar if it had been the mags in our position they wouldn't be getting treat like second class citizens.

    "Joint biggest" ??

The fact he realises that if we were down there that we would get more coverage should make him realise that the joint biggest comment is nonsensical, however delusions run deep there

I'd rather we took the approach Man City took with Foden - protect him and do absolutely everything at our pace.

I think it's a very different situation, City are light years ahead of us, they had so many games where they were winning that he could be brought on in or they could give him games with little pressure as they could win games easily

We aren't in that luxurious position, we don't score lots of goals (yet) and each game will be very pressurised

What positions can Anderson play and what is his best position?

Personally I think if he has a position where he can play 20 games next season then there is no need to loan.

I really don't see him getting that many games

I'd much rather he be loaned out and continue to play men's football, a season of 30+ games would be invaluable

Then we can bring him to the first team squad to compete the season after

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10635879/Newcastle-draw-list-goalkeeper-targets-including-Kepa-Arrizabalaga-Dean-Henderson.html

Newcastle United have drawn up a list of goalkeeper targets for the summer that includes Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga and Manchester United's Dean Henderson.

Number one Martin Dubravka has been one of the club's most consistent performers but Newcastle want increased competition across key areas ahead of next season as they build their new project.

Results under Eddie Howe in recent weeks mean they are on target to secure Premier League safety and they will hold a recruitment meeting at the end of this month to ascertain priority positions for the manager.

Work is already under way with Arrizabalaga and Henderson under consideration along with Arsenal's Bernd Leno and West Bromwich Albion's Sam Johnstone.

Newcastle will want to strengthen in midfield and attack too with the likes of Leeds' Kalvin Phillips, Yves Bissouma of Brighton, Bayer Leverkusen's Moussa Diaby and Brennan Johnson of Nottingham Forest among the other names being discussed next week.

Talk about an underwhelming list of keepers, don't think any of them is much of an improvement if at all over Dubravka
