See the post above by the user Ronaldo. Heh, and the one three posts above that.

Are you talking about the Luque before the serious injury and mistreatment or the Luque prior to those events? He's talking about the actual Luque, not the hypothetical world beater. This is where you lot are failing to understand the argument and so there is no point continuing it.

Read the discussion and you will understand why.

I've yet to see genuine reasoning for this heap of jizz, so no. That Shearer's place in the team during the season in question should not have been so secure and Luque should have been given considerably more game time in his natural position.
-
He got 7 PL goals from open play despite starting all season. Leon Best will easily better that despite not playing till January. In fairness though Best isn't 35+ and playing after a boatload of serious and hampering injuries. That is irrelevant. No its not. A comparison is being made between two strikers, why should the circumstances be dismissed as irrelevant? Irrelevant to the main argument. What main arguement? That Shearer's place in the team during the season in question should not have been so secure and Luque should have been given considerably more game time in his natural position.

I initially challenged Shearer's mention in this thread because someone said they "despised seeing him on the pitch" in that year. Which is just over-the-top bollocks. To you maybe, but so what? Can you not accept the reasoning behind the opinion?

But neither does your post Frazzle.

Your view of the Shearer who played in that season is clouded by his past glories and your view of Luque is based upon events that had yet to unfold.
-
Don't just to silly assumptions ffs I'm just being honest, no matter how brutal you lot take my honesty to be.

Forster is easily capable of stepping up next season. I am extremely confident in his ability and mentality.
-
Put simply, yes. Shearer shackled the club (in selection and tactical approach) and consequently significantly stunted the development of the side.
-
Then against Fulham, Souness farmed him out on the wing to preserve f***ing Shearer's place in the team. Sound familiar? "f***ing" Shearer's place in the team? Had he not earned that place? Luque wasn't class at all either, he was average and very quickly turned to utter dog s*** after his return from injury. A disastrous signing. Reckon if Shearer returned now we'd have to return him to the first team? There comes a point where a player is just unable to contribute sufficiently. Take Gary Neville as a prime example this season.

We needed a striker in the summer and we needed a striker in January. I cannot see how anyone thinks we've done a good job in that department as we've arguably been light since the summer of 2009. We were overloaded with attacking options at the start of the season, however inadequate people may have thought they were at the time. Still there was no real panic up until the point we sold Carroll and didn't replace him suitably.
-
20 for pace and acceleration though?
-
I genuinely despised seeing the slow and aged Shearer crawling around the pitch that season. Slightly tarnished my respect for him, which has since been further blotted by more recent activity.
-
Yes I did, eventually. Sorry.
-
I think we've done a decent job with the players we've brought in over the last couple of seasons. The overriding issue is the players we didn't bring in during the January transfer window.
-
Both players were on big money yet were ignored by a collection of managers (not talking about a single manager with a personal grudge) due to their lack of ability and poor attitude. Luque was certainly not lacking in ability. In regards to his attitude attitude, I would question the extent to which the club were responsible.
-
It must be the latter.

I expect a significant number of people to dislike Canatona as a person, but I would hope that they are levelheaded enough to appreciate his footballing talent.

What is it specifically that you don't like?
