What's the difference between relying on midfielders to score and relying on strikers to score? errr.... Seriously, explain it. The difference between a striker and a midfielder? No. Again, avoiding the question. What are you on, man? Read my post above. I was quoting Chezgiven, I answered you. Chezgiven totally avoided my argument which wasn't trying to state the difference between a striker and midfielder. Yeah! Totally. Its too banal a question to engage in. If your team scores 100 goals a season then it doesnt matter who scores them. If your team needs to score 100 goals (a hypothetical example), then you wouldnt rely on midfield to do it. So "What's the difference between relying on midfielders to score and relying on strikers to score? ", the difference being that the probability of tjhe midfielders getting the goals is lower seeing as they arent specialist goal scorers. But the midfielders have have already proven they are capable of scoring enough, hence why we are top with only one of our strikers having scored and most goals coming from midfield. If Nolan and Guthrie were suddenly said to now be strikers would that mean the worry was over?

You'll never win anything with kids.

Doesn't play CM though surely.

What's the difference between relying on midfielders to score and relying on strikers to score? errr.... Seriously, explain it. Well midfielders are hardly prolific, are they. If we're relying on Kevin Nolan and Danny Guthrie to score our goals this season, we'll end up scoring not many goals. That said, i think Ronaldo was exaggerating a bit. I believe all our strikers can score goals in this league; once Carroll (in particular) notches one, i personally think he can go from strength to strength. I'd say the same for Ranger aswell, but i doubt he'll get as much game time now Carroll and Lovenkrands (and possibly Harewood?) are all available. It's not conventional but I can't see why we can't finish this season with three of our midfielders scoring over 10 and Ameobi scoring 15+. My point was it doesn't matter who you're relying on to score your goals, if they're scoring you're fine, if not you're *******. Man U and Chelsea tailor their tactics to allow the likes of Ronaldo and Lampard to score loads. They don't care who's getting the goals as long as someone is scoring them. Are Guthrie and Nolan worse finishers than Carroll, Ameobi and Ranger? Doubtful.

What's the difference between relying on midfielders to score and relying on strikers to score? Our midfielders have already shown they are a class above in this league and can score. I don't really see the difference between the likes of Carroll and Ranger setting up our midfielders or the midfielders setting up someone like Harewood. It would be nice to have our strikers banging them in but I don't see it being a worry. w

I have seen nothing in Johan's career to sugggest he is better than Jageilka, Distin, or Yobo. I've seen enough of Jagielka, Distin and Yobo to know they aren't as good as Vermaelen.

Nah not really. I expect him to get simple short passes right 75% of the time. Too much to ask? So you think he misplaces more than a quarter of his short passes?
-
People are too harsh on his passing, it wasn't spectatular last night but it was no worse then anyone else in the team. He just sets high standards with his tackling, strength, technique etc. so people seem to expect Beckham-esque passes.

For all this talk about how few 'senior player' we have, the squad isn't that bad. How many teams in the Championship have a better 4th choice striker than Ranger? Or a better 3rd choice centre back than Simpson? Or better reserve wingers than Guthrie and LuaLua? The squad would be rubbish in the PL, but in the Championship? Not bad.
-
We don't really need any cover at LB. We've already got Enrique and Kadar as back up. I think we needed CF, RW and CB, and got 1/3.
-
Both rubbish really but Sunderland lose a first teamer.
-
Think maybe the title may have changed?
-
He wouldn't want to go to a mickey mouse league. There's bigger crowds in the Championship.

Don't bump this thread!

Surely you can be more specific then that.. No positional sense, headless chicken, scored more own goals than goals for us last season. A glowing reference, good job hughton, really knows how to spot a talent. Despite what anyone thinks of Hughton, I'd trust him over some nobody on a forum.

After visiting a local stable today Phil Brown said that whilst he didn't get to ride a horse he was pleased just to be at the stable.

O'Neil's constant British signings seem to be getting worse, I take it these two new CBs are back up?
