Do you think he doesn't? nope. i think we have a team who panic under pressure (which could probably be down to the manager) but that he sets them out time after time after taking a lead and it's backfired the same way is just silly. We did it last year, it worked much of the time then and it hasn't this year. The only thing you're on to something with is saying it's related to confidence, otherwise you're wrong. Evidence: my eyes; common sense; watching football for a number of years (apparently way less than you, which makes the things you say all the more staggering). i've already covered last year man and i will agree that many came out last year thinking we'd just held on when I though it was quite comfortable, think thats more down to mthe fans than owt else. Again I think you're wrong then. We won 19 games last year, I can go through them and tell you how many I thought were comfortable if you like but proportionately there weren't as many as you'd think for a team finishing 5th in the league.

madras being wrong about everything all over the shop again, shock horror.

I was actually thinking "Did he just make that up?" You're right though, it would make sense to drum a footballing philosophy into players from start to finish.
-
:lol People are so demanding, not accepting being petrified of relegation in April.
-
exactly how i see it. especially the bit about shitting it after taking the lead as i see it that we can't handle pressure as opposed to it being a tactic or plan to sit back after taking a lead. Sounds pretty far-fetched to me.

I think he's streets ahead personally.

I don't think it would make them look like mugs, I think this season's made them look like mugs and so would another season that resembled it. They're not arsed what people think anyway but I do think they'll want to see results on the pitch.

I think Fulham do generally play good football and Spurs certainly did when he was in charge. Achievements-wise he's doing as well as can be expected with what he's got at Fulham and was instrumental in turning Spurs from a perennial midtable team into one competing for the top 4. I only know bits and pieces about his career outside England so won't start going on about that. I think he'd do an excellent job, I'm a fan.
-
He'd do a good job but his pragmatic approach wouldn't win too many friends. He's also an absolute bellend which doesn't help. You're exactly right, I'd like some more joy in my life so I don't want him. I think he'd want the job though. Been saying Jol for ages, I think he's great.

He only gets compensation for a year though? That's from what I've heard but even if that is indeed the case, the 8 year contract was a ridiculous (and stupid) idea to begin with. A yearly review would have sufficed. You'd make a shite PR man, sifu. Plus the contract was put in place to wade off the likes of England and Barcelona, or at least ensure we were heavily compensated if Pardew was nabbed.
-
This is what I'm thinking, Ashley's all about value for money and I can't see him being happy with the manager on that score. The main thing you hear about is the contract but it sounds like it's not worth the paper it's written on. Conjecture? Perhaps, but we know Ashley doesn't just throw money at things in a risky fashion, so I'd be amazed if it would cost us a great deal to bin Pardew. The only argument that I hear for him being very safe that holds much credence with me is the idea that Pardew is a manager that Ashley/Llambias can control - he'll tow the party line and not kick up much of a fuss. This is true I suppose, and they haven't done very well with managers so they might want to stick with one that did achieve something (5th last year). However we've seen instances of dissent from Pardew this year with regards to transfer policy so that dynamic may be wearing thin. You know what Ashley and Llambias are like, they're always keen to give themselves a pat on the back but they're actually getting there it seems, and it's sort of deserved (last summer's penny pinching aside). There isn't a hope in hell they'll let Pardew ruin that for them long term, we'll just have to see if the penny drops with them in the summer or later on.
-
I disagree, I think he might be off in the summer.

We've got Marveaux, who hardly ever plays - see above. Not sure if you were serious but I meant Marveaux and HBA. Sissoko to me is a Yaya lite and would only create via force of running etc. Oh OK, thought you meant HBA and Cabaye. Marveaux's barely been unavailable for selection this season, not sure you can call him injury-prone in the context.
-
The justification for keeping him next season appears to have shifted from a genuine belief he could make a decent fist of it and take us forward to comments such as we might as well / he's not going anywhere so there's no point in talking about it / we couldn't or wouldn't get anyone better than him / we owe him something because we finished 5th last year, etc. You waste enough of your fucking time supporting this club - watching teams without a clue playing shite football and getting awful results - and I'd rather not waste any more time next season for the wooly reasoning above when the opportunity to push on is so clearly there.

I still don't buy into this idea that Marveaux couldn't have done a better job than Jonas or Obertan on the wing in many games this season. Obertan was given over half a season on the wing last year before we sacked him off, Marveaux's been given a handful of games in that position and generally sits on the bench because he can't get into the central midfield slots. I've just checked and he's played around 800 minutes in the league this season, despite our well documented () injury problems and him not being unavailable for selection at all from what I can recall (maybe the odd knock). So that's 800 minutes out of almost 2800, or in other words he's been on the pitch less than 30% of the time he could have been this season. And he's still managed to look a creative threat when he's been on the pitch. He's invariably on the bench in favour of a far poorer player in Jonas or Obertan despite never getting a chance on the wing. No matter how well he plays he's back on the bench sooner or later, and that's another axe I've got to grind with Pardew as I think negativity is again at the root of the reasoning.
-
We haven't got enough in wide positions and up front, I've seen worse situations though and we're blessed everywhere else.

But this is a massive, massive point which is completely ignored by almost everyone in their rush to blame (or deflect) Pardew. They're far better than they're showing at the minute, it's bloody obvious. Might not be the worldbeaters some think they are but I don't see how that matters - the point is that the teams we've put out this year could and should have brought us a lot more points. It's certainly the best squad of players we've had in years. And despite that becoming a bit of a cliche on here, it's true - I've seen enough utterly shite NUFC teams over the years to know this isn't one of them. We've got quality in every position, we even have a bit of depth now and most of the backup players aren't bad. A few weak links but certainly a lot better as a squad than all of the NUFC squads I've seen finish in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Becoming very dull all this like, Disco. That's the point. (aside from mine is in jest, others seem to believe the conjecture they spout over and over again) There are also people making reasoned criticism of him, which seems to be ignored. It's apparently all misguided hysteria from people who want to see us become a laughing stock by sacking another manager.

Lowton's goal was unreal mate, wait til you see it.

Here was the whole support thinking "thank fuck for that, we've finally got a destroyer in there who can intercept the ball, keep it simple and pass it to the flair players" but Pardew had other ideas about the matter, clearly.
