And to be honest, after the initial laughter last night that's why I was getting a bit fucked off with this signing - if it means that Elliott becomes second choice. Because we've at least 2 positions that are woefully short of cover and here we are weakening another. Let's hope Harper stays and there's nothing to be angry about.
-
Yeah.... like England for example. We have been spoiled for so long with having 'keepers like Given and Harper that many don't realise how good we have it on the 'keeper front. People could be in for a shock with Krul if they're hanging their hat on him as well. The amount of times he failed to come out for the ball when the ball was crossed in on Saturday was very alarming and he needs to sort that out for a start. I rate him but it's not like he's forced his way into the team in the usual way and kept his place, and I'd far rather we had a steady guy like Harper waiting in the wings to cover for loss of form, injuries and suspensions to Krul.

Understand your point but tbh mate I'd be surprised if Pardew has that much of a say. Highly believable that he's been told he can't have a £30k a week keeper on the bench and needs to replace him with a cheaper option.
-
Why? Is he past it already? Wow. Because Pardew said he wasn't going to a sign another senior goalkeeper, which means another goalkeeper for the senior squad. Running out of ways to say this.
-
TRon man, it doesn't matter how old he is!
-
I don't think we have brought in a senior goalkeeper so that isn't really a contradiction. So what is he then? Depends how you define senior I suppose. Rob Green would be a senior for me. A 25 year old playing for Charlton not so much. Senior means in the senior squad, Pardew never said we wouldn't be getting a GILPIG (Grandad I'd Like To Play In Goal). It tends to be flexible according to your slant IMO. When we sold Given as a 31 year old everyone was up in arms because as a GK he still had "years ahead of him". That makes Elliott a veritable babe in arms in comparison at 25. He meant he wasn't going to sign a goalkeeper for the senior squad. It's football terminology, he wasn't saying that he wouldn't sign a keeper in his 30s.

And why was it easy to complete? This.

I don't think it's a meltdown tbh, my first reaction was to laugh my tits off. If he's 3rd choice then fine, although it amuses me that this is yet another example of signing a player at loggerheads with their club in order to get them on the cheap. If he's 2nd choice then IMO it's a big concern, probably a big downgrade and definitely another big risk.

He's been linked with The Exit by a good few sources, whoever The Exit are. Tbh I think there'd be a few takers if we're trying to sell him.
-
Another million off the wagebill. His time to go is now. He's been first choice for us for the last 2 seasons, I'd be a hell of a lot more comfortable putting him in if Krul has a wobble or gets injured.
-
perhaps because nufc should be concentrating on bringing in a striker and left back before one of the biggest games of the season ? just a random guess like How do you know they aren't? How do you know they are ? If you really think this signing is going to have any effect on us signing a left back or a striker you need to give your head a shake. Time is of the essence. We appear to be fannying about with the other deals with a massive game on Saturday. The reactions are perfectly understandable.

He looks really gay n'all, what's happening to this once great club?
-
I love it how it's some kid from League 1 and we're still taking advantage of a contract wrangle.
-
I know, might have to put off the time I go to kip tonight because the laughter's showing no signs of stopping here.

Would be Overmars with this signing, Reiziger would I.

Kieron Dyer signs one-year contract extension with QPR

Anyone else read the thread title "Kieron Dyer to retire, tralalala" or is that just me? -
Nolan fits that description perfectly tbh. Can people please stop referring to this idea like it's one that's sweeping the forum. As far as I know it's the view of 1 Scandanavian fruitloop and that's it. You're so hell-bent in complying with the "fielding the best team possible always-principle" that you refuse to accept alternative solutions that other managers use, with success. You're obviously arguing that we should always play our strongest team to increase our winning chances. That will if course happen, in the SHORT run. But here lies the predicament: By always fielding your best players, they will get tired as the hectic season takes its toll. This will increase the probability for injury. Also, more games increases the probability of freak injuries (tackles ala De Jong) and suspensions. So as the season develops, we're suddenly without BA because he's injured for two months, together with a host of other important players. Consequently we're forced to use Shola or Loven while BA is out. Because we refused to trust Loven to take care of the weaker teams (which Loven has proven he's capable of doing), BA's freak injury against QPR makes it necessary for us to to play with Loven against stronger teams like Everton, where he's amply proven that he's shit (that could be the difference between losing or winning against that opponent). Also, since we're stuck with Loven/Shola or Best the next months while BA is out, our chances for winning games during that period are reduced. Accordingly your principle could hurt us in the LONG run, hence the predicament. Also, my argument is based on my positive nature. Unlike many of you acid cunts, I actually believe that the club is going in the right direction.. Call me insane, but I like Pards and I like Mike's (despite his previous faults and administrative fuckups) transfer and youth policy. We haven't had so much promising youth in our lines for many many years, which MA deserves credit for, whether you like it or not. Because I have faith in our current squad and manager, I actually believe that Vukic or Loven is capable of stepping up when called upon and doing what's necessary to ensure our win against the shittiest teams. So unless you're accepting that above predicament could be a reality and if you're still insisting on being so fucking negative with no trust towards the current squad and manager, it's better that we agree to disagree.. Go away.

He's a batshit mental player though, if any player's going to do it it's Jonas.
