Can people please stop referring to this idea like it's one that's sweeping the forum. As far as I know it's the view of 1 Scandanavian fruitloop and that's it. You're taking it the way you choose to, the line you highlighted doesnt suggest its a mass view anywhere. Soz like, I'm just saying. Punk keeps on repeating this ridiculous idea like we've got some kind of Harlem Globetrotters type squad and I don't think any other fucker on the board thinks we're in a position to play anything but our best available team in the vast, vast majority of league games.

How do you phase players out on a 4 year contract at 50k a week? Nolan as a squad player? Are you for real? He had 2 years left on his contract, there's no reason we couldn't have went into the season with him on his present deal if we'd just treated him with a bit of respect and told him the situation. But yeah fair enough, lets replace a proven Premier League goalscorer with someone who's never played in the Premier League and hope for the best. If you can't grasp the idea of phasing a senior player out gradually rather than just getting rid and taking a big risk on his replacement then fair enough.

I don't disagree with much of that but when we talk about why our best players want to leave the club, which ones are you talking about? There's been Carroll who went for a staggering fee after 6 months in the premier league, and there's Enrique who had a year left on his contract and was going to leave for the highest bidder. Seems like to me the only bidders in either case were Liverpool and Cunny Dalglish scavenging on his old haunts. The other shitbag scousers, Nolan and Barton didn't attract any serious attention from the Mersey scum. I wonder why? Given, Milner, N'Zogbia. Nolan counts as well, he left because he thought the people running the club were cunts. It seems quite a few of our players are thinking that they're cunts, so this is a problem that needs to be addressed. Maybe Llambias should just stop lying to people, it's never helpful after the first 5 minutes. I just await the dispute the club ends up having with Coloccini leading to his exit, with Ben Arfa, Tiote, etc. Then Ba, then Cabaye... It's more than likely that this will continue to happen. I fully believe Enrique saw the Carroll sale and thought "righteo, I'm away unless they convince me otherwise". He probably viewed the relegation as a blip, saw us building a team under a popular manager to get promoted then saw the manager sacked and Carroll sold. I think he'd have stayed if we made big statements in the transfer market this summer, but like us he's seen us fanny about with free transfers then had visions of spending the next few years of his career treading water.

I was all for phasing Nolan out but I'd have far rather that process involved him becoming a squad player because there were already players getting in the first team ahead of him on merit, not selling him when he was always in the first team when fit. That's generally what happens when you phase players out, they're on the bench a bit first. Touch wood with Cabaye like because we're hanging our hat on him to a degree imo.

Exactly. And Cuntenkrands wtf - Lovencunts is surely better, although it kind of conjures up images of him as a real caveman lothario type so perhaps it's best avoided.

Would be amazing if Jonas did a Barton and found an entirely new position that made us wonder why we ever bothered playing him elsewhere. -
Haven't commented on this yet but obviously really disappointed, no matter how inevitable it was. As usual with a few on here there's a bit too much of the "well he wanted to leave, what could we do?" as opposed to addressing the reasons why our best players always want to leave the club, but fuck it. I'm genuinely becoming more and more apathetic, we've built a team and ripped it apart. What I said about the team that got relegated at the time was that I hated most of our players, there was a real lack of likeable figures at our club. Well I'm down to a handful of players I like and rate again but fuck it, just keep supporting them and see what happens I suppose. The feel good factor has definitely vanished and you often worry about clubs where that's the case, but I think we'll get away with it this season, just about. It upset me to see Enrique arriving at Liverpool today but he'll never get booed off me unless he's a twat about us in the press. Regardless of how well he was paid he was a great professional for us and you've only got one career.

Where do these people appear from ffs? Painful.

He's clueless man, he's coming out with this shite all the time.

Too many contingencies..Selling Carroll only if we could find a replacement..With Liverpool paying a stunning £35 mill for him, it's likely that they did not accept such a solution.. Abramovich paid for Carroll tbh. Liverpool fans always say this but it still doesn't make sense. Just because Liverpool wanted Carroll + £15m doesn't mean 'Chelsea paid for Carroll' as I always hear. Liverpool still had to fork out £35m which could have gone anywhere they wanted. The 'Chelsea paid for Carroll' is just a way to avoid admitting the extortionate fee paid. I kind of bought it at the time but it makes less sense now they've spunked so much money all over the place this summer, without selling players for £50m.

It's the fact that everyone was rightfully saying how the fuck did he manage to get a new contract when Kinnear was around (well not really, it was obviously because Kinnear was around) and here we are again. Only thing going for him in my book is that he's a canny lad, that's it. He'll be a nice lad in the dressing room, he'll not kick off when he's on the bench or played on the wing or some shite, oh and I suppose he'll play quite well 3 or 4 times a season. It worries me that we're not aiming higher but as cali says above it's a sign of the times I suppose, stick this on the list with all the rest of the shit that's happened.

Been a bit busy the last few days so just had time to see this and take it all in. The progress continues I see. NUFC.com sum it up pretty well.

Can remember that, so many times I'd see the Man Utd score towards the end of the season and it was 1-0, Cantona. -

Nice one. -
I am so fkn happy he is though, this is one occasion where I hope his childishness wins Not if it means this drags on and we end up getting rid of him on deadline day without recruiting a replacement. We do get good fees for our players on the whole though, admittedly.

proven goalscorer with unproven player with potential Oh come off it man ffs. what ? He was young, playing wing for Juventus and was largely a flop. Didnt live up to the expectation. Wenger paid alot for him and from memory it was seen as a big risk. he was proved right. He was a young French international widely regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe. His career had stalled a bit at Juventus but he wasn't there long at all. Plus Wenger had already worked with him so knew what he was getting. The guy was clearly a class act back then, it was obvious.

Who was a winger at the time. Obertan our new striker ;-) And he only cost half of what the Anelka sale got them. Cool, would be delighted with a £17m striker to replace Carroll.

You did the classic paint job of Phil Brown singing like a twat right? I loved it. Shame it's been downhill ever since. What a thoroughly dickish thing to say.

Standard response, thanks Dale.

Not being an egomaniac, just thought I'd quote this for people who don't frequent the Football In Paint thread and weren't sure how this smiling business had panned out.
