two main things, the midfield failed to get hold of the ball, thus meaning we couldnt stop the wurzals from crossing the ball into the box and then our defence couldnt deal with any of their crosses when it came in not to mention gosling obertan were competely twats the whole game, so yeh 4-2 is kind to us really. We dealt with pretty much everything comfortably from open play, but set piece defending let us down i dont think so, our midfield could not get hold of the ball, we did well in the first 15-20 mins of play, the stats were like 70-30% posession in our favour, and then norwich just up thier game, they saw our weakness on our right side (obertan, raylor) and exploited it, almost every attack came from that side in the first half. gosling kept running out of position, obertan was cutting in and at the same time santon kept overlapping and pushing up leaving jonas to do the fullback role, our shape was horrible due to all this movement., so on both sides of our flank we were awful in terms of positional sense , and in the centre of midfleld we were often left with just one man (cabaye) as gosling went AWOL running around to no mans land. so norwich basically had a field day exploiting our disorganized disfunctional midfield, having all the time in the world to play balls in the box, whilst our make shift back four failed miserable to cope when the balls got played in. all in all a horrible day, of a game of football really.

i was just reading an article last night about obertan, the story of how he was brought up in a middle class family, and fergie came calling to sign potato head whilst he was just 15 tender years of age, but obertan was such a goodboy he decided to listen to his mom's advice and finish his education before moving clubs, then after a horrible season out on loan to some obscure french side that i cant recall, fergie came back calling again and oberton now 20 years of age agrees to move to join old rednose at manutd, the article was very favourable towards obertan, going on about how he studied at university and can speak five languages, and there's me thinking hey this chap is probably pretty smart, and then today i watch him play football like he left his head in the changing room. where was our big time university boy at? shocking.

come on lads lets not get too down about this, we played with a midfield that included two tosspots, potato head and a gobling who couldnt pass a ball to save their lives, then like thats not bad enough our defence were made up of 3 fullbacks and a midfielder, and their not even great fullbacks to begin with never mind centrebacks. on to the next match.

I agree with all of that, I thought Santon was too narrow at times when he could have stayed wider and I thought Krul might have came off his line a bit more to help claim some balls in the air considering we had little or no height in the middle of defence. I'll have to watch it back but I don't think Krul could have done much more with the bulk of their crosses as they would have been too far for him to come and collect, not to mention the bodies that'd be between him and the ball. Norwich did this really well I thought, that and the overloading of the box from crosses was impressive. They're a decent team, no stars but ethic, discipline and workrate (plus the odd dash of quality) can get you where they want to be and I'd be happy for them to stay up. they play alot like when we did under CH, two big lumps uptop nolan and carroll, lots of wing play and crosses into the box, very direct attacking play. simple but effective. especially against an opposition that has a defense made up of three fullbacks and a winger.

foul game, very smelly! lets not be too harsh what other options have we got in the centre of defence? im just really disapointed with our inability to stop the crosses from coming into the box, theres nothing we can do about the lack of option in the central defence as we got players injured but we have been shocking at dealing with the widemen of norwich , we been poor with stopping the crosses and runs down the wings. having raylor and obertan on one side is just madness.

Norwich vs Newcastle - 10/12/11 - Pre Match Thread

not a fan of shola and demba combination, gosling and cabaye in the the centre two don't fill me with confidence either, never mind perch and simpson in the heart of our defence. everything just seems wrong, wtf, not like we got alot of choices anyway but i think arfa should be starting behind Ba, i got a real bad feeling about his one, just hope im wrong. -
one thing we never did was run at their central defence, thats becuase we dont have the players to do that. maybe with exception of ben arfa and but he was shocking. terry is the master of the air, he can deal with high balls all day long and all we did was play high balls in their defence, laid it on a plate for terry we did. terry was fukking immense today, it actually really annoyed me, without him we would have gotten something from this game, our spirit was still high all the way til the end, howay the lads!

obertan had a shocker today, cole had him in his pocket all day long. he also gave the ball away many times, but what you dont see is, when obertan plays. he stops the opposition's fullback pushing up because they all frightened of his pace. cole could not attack at all today. but having said that obertan were poor with the ball all day.

people are correct to say raylor looks shoddy without jonas covering him but it was also not helped by how high our backline was playing especially in the first 30 mins. that high line really compounded the lack of quality in raylor. however that goal has nothing to do with our high line, we conceded that goal after our backline of four has just settled and played deeper, but it was just pure lack of concentration to allow that throwing leading to a cross in the box.
-
our final ball has been really bad today. no one can offer any invention when we get near their box, we should expect ben arfa to be the exact man for that job but he's been missing, marked completely out of the game. he needs to get on his bike and work harder and lose his man. we were also playing far to high up in the begining, and that goal conceded was just poor defending and lack of concentration to allow that cross in, in the first place, nevermind the shoddy attempt to stop drogba's header.

he had a contract until the end of this current season, for him to say anyone forced him out is verging on farcical. the team wanted him to stay so did the manager, he made his decision to leave and now he's looking for someone to blame as he finds out the grass ain't always greener. c u joey, tosspot.

he was probably talking about future seasons. no doubt sh1t redtop newspaper again taking someone's words and putting them in the wrong context maybe?

to be fair that aint really a great stat to have, yeh we're great at clearing balls but it also means we're great at letting the opposition fire at our asses. -
