We've shown we're capable of doing that while riding the wave of positivity, it'll be a different task if we lose the next few though, especially the Sunderland game. There's already a big change in mood and slipping down towards mid table will solidify that in large chunks of the fanbase.

People underestimate the value of mood and momentum in football. Ourselves and Villa are examples of what it can do for the better when it's going your way, Chelsea and Spurs (last season), the opposite.

We're obviously capable of top six but it's definitely hanging in the balance and will be a bigger task than a lot of people think. There needs to be patience and an acceptance that it may be beyond us IMO.

The best bet is probably to get a few players in during January to try and shift the mood back in our favour a bit.

Jan is the key for me. The squad desperately needs freshening up, and more quality added to turn this around. Much like we did in Jan when they took over the club.

    This is mental.

Why? The man has transformed the club when it was on its knees and I also have faith in him to turn it around.  This season was always going to be challenging and it has proved to be.

I also think Burn has got it into his head that he needs to attack and overlap to mirror what Tino can do.

I would much prefer he just stayed steady and focused on his own strengths as the above results in him being no good at either.

He defo never ran forward as much

  4. Sacking Eddie would be catastrophic for the club - and for me it won't happen.  He's still the dressing room, he's still the fans, we could finishing 17th and I wouldn't want Eddie sacked.  And I think the owners know that - Jan will be telling for me in how much they back him.  As we need players.

I look at it as -

    1. Are we in a position to be relegated - NO.

    2. Are we in a good table position overall - YES.

    3. Are the injuries we have counting against us - YES.

    4. Should there have been a better squad rotation - YES.

So if Eddie were to be sacked (which I wouldn't want - give him another two seasons at least as we are still in building mode) - who the Fuck would you get ?

The daggers are definitely getting sharpened in the press - very negative today.  I think the biggest issue Eddie has is that he over achieved with the squad.  Now expectation is a lot higher.  Most Newcastle United fans knew it was a big ask competing in all competitions with our squad, which was small before the injuries hit.  All eyes will be on Eddie now in how he adapts to the situation as it is clear the players we have now just haven't the energy or aren't fit enough yet (still carrying knocks) to play his high press, attacking system.  So we are going to have to adapt and change our playing style.  Hopefully now Eddie has the chance to train with the players, he has the chance to do just that.  Jan will also be key in strengthen/freshening the squad - a new keeper is a must.

Incidentally Steve McManaman just said in his summary of our match that we look out on our feet. You hear it fairly regularly so it's not like we're just imagining it or being biased.

It annoys me when people say we can't use it as an excuse as it's a fact that the team are on their knees.  We've played pretty much the same team all season with Eddie having very little opportunity to change things up. Our whole success has been built on our press and intensity.  And in the second half that was just lacking - the team put it all out there in the first half. I thought it was telling that NF had a stronger bench than us and we able to add fresh legs.

Was clear from the opening minutes they had identified him as the weak link and liked their matchup against him. All first half I was desperate for him to be subbed before the inevitable happened.

    ….

He didn't look fit from the off. I saw him feel his shoulder a few times. I think that's the problem with a lot of the players. They all carrying knocks but we don't have the squad to rest them. And it's starting to cost us. Our game is built on our intensity which was there in the first half. But was missing in the second.

Was a disgrace on Saturday and today. There is being tired and not trying a leg like he has.
