Do you think they have a list of slimeballs that they're going to bring in? Do you think he'll hire anyone who isn't likely to accept his complete lack of ambition and total contempt for fans and the region? Here's a clue: you're thick as mince if you do. Di Matteo was said to be waiting for our job to become vacant, he's an upgrade on Pardew. Well that's that then, Ashley will indeed appoint the champions league winner

So Pardew should be criticised for having no part in the loan signing of a mercenary who turned us down for more money last season and appears still to be unable to do 90 mins 2months into the season? He deserves a hammering for numerous things but this isn't one of them. It's Ashley that's killing the club, not Pardew. This thread is ridiculous. You're all mad.

Not for me no, its just that some fullbacks attack more than others, theres no real difference in how the position is played if you're an attacking, overlapping fullback in aback 4 and a "wingback" in a back 3. The Brazilians as you say have played with that sort of player for decades, see Carlos Alberto's classic goal from the 1970 WC final.

I can't remember if it's a player who comes from a wide position to receive the ball centrally, or starts centrally and gets the ball out wide, using that movement to drag defenders. I also can't think of an example of such a player. Does that mean youve just made it up? While we're on the subject, whats the difference between a fullback and a wingback?... http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/12/03/introducing-the-central-winger/ Wingbacks are higher up, attack more, cover a longer distance of the flank? I always found it interesting that in Brazil the wing/fullbacks are refered to as left and right 'laterals', removing the defensive aspect of the name. Therefore you end up with Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Daniel Alves, Maicon etc... Doesnt it depend on the formation though?...3 at the back=wingback; back 4=fullback?.... the first time the phrase was used in this country iirc was during the nineties in relation to Terry Venables England's 3-5-2. But attacking fullbacks had been a feature of the game for decades before that. Santon and Debuchy are very attacking but they play in a back 4... by your definition theyre wingbacks?...

If I saw the game turning and looked at a bench to see Obertan, Amalfitano, Abeid and 2 Ameobi's looking back I'd probably have no idea where to start either Back to the players aren't good enough then are we? First team is good enough, squad never has been. We need great fortune to have any chance of a canny season. Here we are with Dummet and Williamson potentially our starting CBs for the Mackems with no cover on the bench. It should be pointed out here that Pardew has little or no say in the numbers or make up of the squad...thats down to others..

Why bring in either when your trying to replace a (relative) genius though? I'd have gone for a big name with the relelvent experiance of getting sides to the latter stages of the champions league. This is where the Glazers leaveraged buyout truly starts to bite...doing it on a comparative shoestring compared with man city and chelsea won't be enough to keep the trophies coming in now they've lost the one person who could acheive that in those circumstances. They need to spend to keep up with the Jones's, but I dont think they have the muscle to.

Speaking very much as an newbie/outsider, this thread is 90% utter nonsense once you have accepted that Mike Ashley continues to employ someone as limited as Pardew. Its missing the target by a million miles but it seems its not acceptable to point out the truth to people trying to show off how much they know about football. I do think its all hugely amusing and rather sad at the same time.

Think they're all in for a rude awakening next February come renewall time... then I'm chucking it and just taking membership if I can keep my points.

I can't name one that Kinnear could get, that would be as baseless as claiming that he couldn't get anyone better. Do you only deal in indisputable facts then, and have no time for opinion based on recent history? Since Ashely took over iyam we've appointed one decent manager, and got lucky with another being in the right place at the right time when few others would touch us with a bargepole. On that basis, I think we'd be fortunate to end up with an upgrade on Pardew.
-
Mike Ashley has never appointed a manager, he's agreed to the appointments. Brilliant, youve got me there. Now name a manager Joe Kinnear could get to agree to working for him, who's better than Pardew, who in turn Mike Ashley would agree to appointing.
-
I could name loads of better managers but couldn't prove anything and wouldn't claim to. I don't believe that we couldn't get better than Pardew and we already have done so, claiming that we couldn't is a baseless assumption. You think theres a better manager than Pardew out there that Mike Ashley would appoint? Cant completely disagree, but it would take a lot of luck.
-
You said "at Mike Ashley's NUFC he's without doubt the least worst option as manager" then you've proven you were wrong. "and a great victory was won" Name a manager he could get better than Keegan in 2013 mate and your point will be well and truly proved Better than Pardew would be just as useful. And more realistic. In no way am i being sarcastic. As I started out saying I dont think even that is possible. If he avoids doing the obvious we may get lucky. Thats all we can hope for iyam. Although it should be pointed out that even someone as limited as Pardew could get us to 5th in an unusual season.

So Ashley can get better than Pardew, thanks for that. Not sure what that proves tbh. Ashley couldnt get a manager the calibre of Keegan in 5 years on from choosing Dennis Wise in front of him. He could get Tony Pulis if that would make you happy?

Really? OK. Kinnear may not be our next manager. For me its highly likely that he will be. I know its not good for a forum but this whole thread is utter guff when you consider what is likely to happen next. I highly doubt it man, as much as I wish he did. This is the best job he will ever get. This is his pinnacle Why would he openly criticise Ashley today though?...cant see it being anything else apart from wanting to be sacked. He's bascially said he's clueless when it comes to running the club, which is true, but if you rub your boss's nose in his own shortcomings theres usually only one outcome. His comments re the Liverpool game pale into insignifgance compared with what he said about Ashley. Is Pardew the best manager we've had under Ashley? Ashley conspired to get rid of his best manager, which was proven in court.

Pardews comments today are mostly ridiculous and some could be viewed as a resignation note. Thing is, at Mike Ashley's NUFC he's without doubt the least worst option as manager. I really do think even he wants out though.
-
Wow - quite shocked he owned up to that. Its not an admission as such, more a career suicide note. Implicit criticism of the owner and his appointment of Kinnear in the summer on live tv. Sounds like he wants out with his compo paid in full. Can't blame him tbh.

Why is Pardew still in the job folks? It's a simple enough question. Is Pardew a bigger problem than the man who continues to employ him?
-
Pardews rubbish, agreed.....why's he still in a job again? This isn't a chicken and egg debate folks, Ashley wants a yes man who will deliver premier league survival. I want more than that and so do all you lot, but Pardew remains in his job. Most of you lamenting some of the woeful stuff we've turned in in the last 12 months barely mention Ashley as being the real problem. Every criticism of Pardew without reference to the man who keeps someone with such limited ability in a job is utterly pointless. Not good for a debating forum I know, but the fact remains, heavy criticism of Pardew misses the point by a million miles. Not with the quality of the players he has it doesn't. And all of what Ashley is about Pardew has been complicit with anyhow. So your post has no real point at all. The point of the post has been missed by you it would seem. Yes, we have players with talent. Pardew is limited. Again, I ask, why is still in the job? overall, hes a poor manager who has little or no say in who comes into the club; so how is he more responsible for poor displays than the man who keeps him in a job? Even sacking him is worse, it almost certainly means the appointment of Joe Kinnear as manager. For me, very regrettably, Pardew is the best manager NUFC can have at the moment.

Thats pretty fat from the bigger picture iyam. The bigger picture is Mike Ashley wont pay for a better manager than the rather limited Pardew. People on forums such as this think they're clever pointing out every mistake Pardew makes, frankly just to show off "how much they know about football", yet barely utter a word about the bloke who continues to employ him. Pretty bizzare. We've tried to play better football this season, and it has showed in some games. Thing is when we concede a goal heads drop. The greatest players are great because they've got heart as well as ability. Difficult to teach grown men heart tbh.

Have you ever played with or against someone who's made it?

5 a side v NUFC all time great Wayne Fereday....thought to myself "I'll half this useless bag of crap if I get a chance".....couldnt get near him in 30 mins of trying, this is years after he knocked playing on the head He was wearing a WBA tracksuit. -
i apologise You're spot on. just my perception. Probably clouded by Wullie's insistence that things have never been this bad in 15 years It's much easier to cope with the manager if the players are bollocks. Having to be in a position where players with real talent and pedigree look absolute toss and we can't accommodate Hatem Ben Arfa because he doesn't graft enough is unbelievably depressing. I've never been more frustrated as a Newcastle fan because I can see how close it is, that doesn't necessarily mean things are at their worst. Pardew's limited to say the least, but is he completely responsible for the players mentally withdrawing and physically shrinking the second Cardiff scored? They lost heart. Their heads went down. Not as much as on other occasions (Liverpool at home last sesson springs to mind) but they still did. Then they rallied a bit and we got a good result, and overall it was a good performance. We need 2 things for your vision to be realised; they need to stop feeling sorry for themsleves and they need a couple of leaders in the Nolan/Barton mould. I agree the team has bags of talent, but it doesnt have a lot of heart.
