Lack of athleticism seems to be the criticism at Liverpool, and presumably that’s after being loaded with asthma medication.

And to add on, buying players off the back of performances in international tournaments is generally a mistake. Let alone a youth competition

Without trawling through previous posts, can anybody explain why we aren't in for Harvey Elliott?

Doesnt suit our style of play? Over priced? Would help finance Liverpool's potential approach for our best player?

They still fall under fair market Value.

For an example spurs get 20 million for both training ground and kit sponsor, we will likely be approved half that or a third. We qualify again next season for the CL, do you think they will make it easy for us to renegotiate?  From a business perspective will it not be better to wait till our value goes up.

Its what the club has communicated to us fans. So I would say they obviously know the constraints involved, and have made a decision to wait. I will not be critical of that personal but I do understand why most would be.

Remember good business coupled with ambition leads to sustainable success like Man City.

Ambition without good business sense leads to Man Utd.

A third or that? No chance it's half at worst and even then it's better than nothing? 30m min We've lost out ok because of this.

Also, try and think pragmatically, if we can't use related parties who's giving us more?

And bro what is that analogy, you can't nail failure and success to such words, it's obviously much more complex than buzzwords.

Not to mention you are entirely missing the point im making which is simply if we to be "number 1" we will need the people making such statements to do more than they currently are.

The Club, from Eales to Silverstone have told fans the club's position on this already.

Im not referring to external sponsors. I'm talking about related party ones.

Ah OK, see what you're saying. I'm not sure I believe there are companies queuing up to sponsor our training ground or training kit mind. And I don't want a stadium sponsor if it means changing the name.

Related parties to our owners. Again these comments are on the basis of the big talk and the follow through.

Have we? How do you mean, by turning down people who wanted to sponsor us?

No training ground sponsor, no training kit sponsor, no stadium sponsor etc.

It just points to our owners not being invested to the point of us being number 1, because if this was truly the aim we can't afford to leave anything on the table.

Yep, that's what I was hinting at in my post, right? Without APT, we'd have better sponsorships, which means more money, and we'd be further along than we are now.

    Double post.

    Citation needed.

We have left a lot of sponsorship money on the table regardless of APT.

THB is a bit of weird one, captain of the u21s but seemingly little hype even with his England call up. £19m is peanuts for a young England international, is he just not very good?

You'd imagine his numbers look awful given he played for Soton.

You're right imo and (sorry to sound smug) but I’ve said this all along. This doesn't look like the flashy, short-term sportswashing we’ve seen with the Saudi Pro League or Club World Cup. PIF were fully aware of PSR constraints and still went ahead, which suggests a longer-term, strategic investment rather than a vanity project. That said, it still contributes to improving Saudi Arabia’s global image; it’s sportswashing, just in a more subtle and credible form. This is in stark contrast to the in-your-face stuff that’s coming soon with the Saudi World Cup (I’ve talked to a few people involved and as usual they have wildly expensive and ambitious plans for that).

Newcastle United clearly matters to PIF but likely as part of a wider global portfolio. It’s just not a top-tier national priority though.

Isn't this hard to nail down? I mean YAR loves spouting about being number 1, kind of a weird thing to keep repeating if we are just a portfolio company.

In terms of these processes they have, I'm assuming these are more investment related than anything else, either way using investment related processes to run a football club sounds bizarre.

Be surprised if they were going to sell anyone. There would’ve been stronger rumours by now - no?

But aye today will confirm it.

Be interesting to know the shape of the sale.  There were rumours the women’s team would be sold over 3 years.

Assuming nobody will be sold. That would also mean nobody would need to be sold before June 2026 too - at the worst.  Overall I’ve been impressed with how Villa have been able to navigate FFP/PSR.

Selling pieces at a time is a very smart way to do it. If you believe the loophole won't get closed and your not in need of massive money.

The ownership of the women's team essentially becomes an overdraft facility (in financial terms).

They may as well tear PSR to shreds and start again but it’s still serving a purpose of letting other clubs do what they want while we shit on our hands so it’s got some life in it yet

They are trying they can't

They used to do things by consensus and they've totally given up on doing things that way, it's just the cartel clubs plus the gravy train riders.

Today’s the day we should know if Villa have gone down the ‘sell your women’s team to yourself’ route.

They don’t sell anyone today, and it looks pretty likely that’s what they’ve done.

They aren't selling anyone, not at this deadline anyways.

As I've been saying PSR is severely weakened and it's Chelsea who are responsible. Writings been on the wall since those academy swaps.

Clearly it's come onto play with the stadium announcement.

Do we believe the Journos who said an announcement was literally ready before the end of the season?

This is regarding the training ground, for context.

Aye it is, but it often repeated and appears to relate all decisions they make.

Just a casual: “Throw in £350m of asset sales and the women’s team and they have nothing to worry about in PSR terms”.

So if they hadn’t used their bent loopholes they’d be fucked?

They would be aye, silly to post this from Maguire as the incoming chart is obviously much higher and it doesn't account for salaries.

If we know anything about Eddie Howe it’s that he’s one prepared son of a gun.

I find it very hard to believe he’s prepared a list of four targets with no alternatives.

We are already in the alternative targets tbh.

We've missed out Mbuemo, Delap, Huijsen already.

We are hunting in very crowded waters, it's very difficult.

  18. Just now, BennyBlanco said:

We sign Trafford and maybe one more. If we’re lucky. Howe must be pulling his hair out - performed near miracles with a fairly stale squad and asked for the recruitment to be quick and precise - he’s been badly let down.

Piss poor from the club so far this summer. The word rudderless has been said a few times on here because it’s absolutely spot on.

I understand the sentiment but can he be? It's kinda obvious these are his targets.

  19. Just now, Colos Short and Curlies said:

Kluivert would be my number one choice if he wasn't predominantly a left sided player.

What about Ascensio? Proved he can do it on the premier league, one year left on his contract so probably available for a lowish price (helps with the inevitable high wages).

Old and expensive. We can't afford players of this profile sadly.
