  1. I’m not sure If this has been posted elsewhere but was just reading about Ryan Fraser refusing to sign an extension with Bournemouth to keep him there until the end of this season as his contract is up. What absolute shithouse behaviour that is given they’re deep in trouble. It’s Michael Owen levels of low.

He’s got West Ham written all over him.

It's exactly what Pedro has done above tbh. If you know you are leaving anyway it makes no sense to stay an extra month and risk an injury that could curtail your last big contract. It looks worse because Bournemouth are in trouble but I understand it.

  2. Could another bid even be accepted or entertained at this stage?

I dont think so, i think it can made public that theres another buyer waiting but official bid i dont think so

Is this the dude ashley was in the states with? and why would you bid 50mil more than whats been accepted

If their lawyers are half decent, there will be a long-stop date in there somewhere confirming that the deal is null and void if conditions precedent (i.e. PL approval) are not satisfied by a certain date. I have no idea what that date could be.

  3. Can’t be that far off having the option to do a type of fans trust type of takeover like Pompey did.

Give it’d require putting their hands in their pockets it won’t happen though as a healthy portion of their support are ‘parasites’ in the words of their former director and more interested in ‘actually damaging the progress of the club’ to quote their former chairman.

Agree, they talk a good story but not a chance on earth would they part with money to save themselves , let just sit back and laugh at them .Im actually stumped to think of anything to not laugh at them it’s actually a very boring rivalry now. Just a knowing snigger at them .

And there we come to the crux of the problem with Sunderland AFC. They can bleat on about how the club is the literal lifeblood of their town, their whole identity, and how all they want is PL football in a PL stadium. Just as long as it's all funded by a weathly owner and they don't have to pay for it themselves.

Bit of an odd insult having a go at their fans, living in one of the most deprived areas in the country, for not being able to afford buying out a club in some hypothetical scenario tbh - I don't think our fans would act any differently.

  4. Mad how much people hate him like.

He was a third choice keeper that we paid nothing for, and paid low wages. Hence why he played 50 odd times in 9 years.

He really wasn't bad at short range shot stopping IMO.

We paid him over £10m in those 9 years.

I've went over to Premier League Stats.

141 saves in 52 games (Rob Elliot) 2.71 saves per games

238 saves in 79 games (Martin Dubravka) 2.97 saves per game

The stats speak for themselves. He was a perfectly acceptable back up keeper. He should never be number 1, but I have no problem with what the club paid him over the years. Really apart from a the odd game in the last decade, we've never been scrambling for an emergency keeper. We've always had a back up.

I just find the hate weird. Midds comment is beyond embarrasing. Bit creepy tbh.

Completely agree. Average, average keeper who did nothing in his time here but was fine as a third choice and not a disaster when he played. Guarantee if he hadn't made that comment about Pardew nobody would have batted an eyelid yet now he's a disgrace who needs to be abused on his way out the door

  5. Not sure why so many people are putting Rozenhal - he wasn't quick/strong enough for the premier league but he wasn't a terrible defender and we got most of our money back for him. Sol Campbell and Cacapa were far worse.

    Sels

    Cacapa

    Campbell

    Babayaro

    Obertan

    Smith

    Butt

    Pancrate

    Riviere

    De Jong

    Xisco

Babayaro is not an ashley era signing.

No requirement for him to be. The requirement was for players of the Ashley era.

  7. Bit of a shame for Sterry. Not basing this on his football ability but he seems a really decent lad based on his Instagram fitness sessions he’s been doing. He had Lascelles, Longstaff and a few others on and seemed to have a good rapport with them. He joked once saying he be a PT after all of this so maybe he saw it coming.

    Fuck Colback though!

Not sure why its a shame. He would have known his contract wasn't getting renewed and it makes no sense him coming back for less than a month when he won't be named in a single squad.

  8. Just want to.ask. How did they view and regard Martin Bain? Was he someone they hated?

Very much so but i think that was pretty understandable tbf.

What was the main reason? Where did it start to go bad for him with the fans? I mean the Netflix flick just shows a glimpse of what he was like but it ran deeper didn't it?

He asset stripped for Short from the off and was the public face of the club ownership when he was there.

Not sure about asset stripping. I think he was hated because he was very similar to Lee Charnley here. Keep costs as low as possible while trying to put on a facade of 'we're trying hard to make the club the best it can be'. Only for fans to see through it after a succession of terrible transfer windows and meaningless soundbites.

  9. It's an absolutely dense move to let him go, and a real shame for him that he might miss out on a very successful period for the club.

That said, sure he'll have a great time in Italy and develop as a player. As always, we lose the most.

I doubt he’ll play a minute of football in Italy.

Why do you think that? Udinese are basically the Italian Newcastle. A couple of decent European jaunts back in the day but otherwise firmly a mid-table club that flirt with relegation often. He's not going to struggle for minutes assuming he doesn't have a massive collapse in form (and I'm aware he hasn't really played enough for anyone to be sure of his ability).

  10. Jordan Ibe is available on a free.

Could do a lot worse than him, but seems to have gone backwards at Bournemouth.

I am sure Rafa wanted him instead of Ritchie back in the Championship because he could see his raw talent and knew he could turn him into a player.

Would be an absolutely dreadful signing, even for our current squad  ;D

  11. Gouffran was absolutely terrible

    Truly awful

From what I recall I remember feeling his was a "plodder" did a job he was asked and you get what you pay for and signing cheap "usually" means you are buying limited players. I didnt dislike him as he did do a job but nor did I miss him leaving the club.

I disagree, he was a useful outlet at times and scored some important goals (the two winners v Chelsea spring to mind). He was very inconsistent and tailed off badly towards the end which I think colours how he was thought of here. He was value for money overall.

  12. 1 Keegan(1st spell)

    2 Sir Bobby

    3 Rafa

    4 Hughton

    5 Keegan(2nd spell)

    6 Roeder

    7 Pardew

    8 Dalglish

    9 Allardyce

    10 Bruce

    11 Gullitt

    12 Souness

    13 Kinnear

    14 McClaren

    15 Carver

I think Pardew, Dalglish, Allardyce, Gullit, Bruce and Souness are all in a group of their own and could swap round the order between themselves quite easily - all poor managers who were responsible for taking us down a level but not the absolute shitshows that were Kinnear, McClaren and Carver. Pardew just gets more stick generally because of his personality.

  13. He's absolutely chod. His positioning is so poor that even his searing pace can't make up for it, he's forever caught out of place and doesn't use the ball well enough to mask that.

He'd be one of the first I'd be hoping to replace and get rid of when the takeover dust settles.

Exactly this!  One of the worst full backs I've seen at Newcastle.

This forum is terrible for this sort of exaggerated bollocks  :idiot2:

  14. All this Nagelsmann talk - as if he'd join us

Why not? He’s long wanted a project in England, loves the league, has learnt the language, and knows that he is still learning and a young manager, hence why he’s turned down bigger jobs like Real last year.

It's completely deluded to think Nagelsmann would leave for us man

  15. Complaining about retaining our manager for nine games, in the middle of a global pandemic, when we're about to be taken over by a sovereign wealth fund.

And yet, still, there's comments about 'our moronic fans'.

yeah i made them, because he's fucking shite and swathes of our fans think he's in some way not unfit to lace rafa's loafers, they're fucking morons

i think it'll all be moot anyways, season cancelled and he'll be chucked right in the bin where he deserves to be

Surely the points many people are making are:

    - We aren't going to get relegated (I know some people disagree but we are 8 points clear with 10 or so games left, it isn't happening).

    - The right manager might not be available when the takeover completes, and even Rafa will be significantly cheaper in 6 months time on the basis of his contract.

    - Any sensible owner would sit down and take stock of everything before deciding which manager is best to take the club forward / which manager is even available at the end of the season.

    - The world is currently turned upside down and there'll be a huge amount of stuff to look at before even thinking about appointing a new manager.

In light of the above taking time to take stock and evaluate everything while Bruce sees out the rest of the season to no great alarm makes sense.

  16. £150m to me reads potentially as an agreement for a future staggered payment - hence the vendor loan agreement with SJH as the lender. Again, hard to gleam too much with access to only one of a multitude of legal documents.

That's not correct - see above.

Where's that from? Can't see anything linking them.

From the security document itself posted at Companies House - you can access it on PCP's page.

  17. Staveley now appointed director at JV1 Limited.

    What’s JV1 limited?

These sort of acquisitions typically have a number of companies set up at different levels of the structure by the buyer to facilitate acquisition finance going in at different levels (you'd often have loan notes being issued at one level, equity at another etc.) JV 1 was only established in Jan so that would make sense.
