Barnes's goal record would suggest that providing we can get that out of him when he's fully up and running, he'll be worth every penny.
-
Although I did think we didn't look right for a big chunk of the first half, I think this is reasonable.

Good for you, so do I. I'm not suggesting you turn your nose up at anything, I'm saying since it's inception I haven't had a moments interest in the competition, that's my personal preference
If it wasn't obvious, 'I support Newcastle' was just shorthand for 'we haven't won a trophy in my lifetime'

If I've got my numbers right Brentford on Sunday will be our 51st game of the season.
This season from a squad of 33, we've only had 8 outfield players who have started or played a significant amount in 30 games or more. Of them:
Bruno: 48
Gordon: 48
Schär: 43
Longstaff: 40 - injured then played through injury
Burn: 38 - was injured for a month
Isak: 37 - was injured for a month then took a while to hit form
Trippier: 36 - was out for 2 and a half months
Almiron: 32 - was out for 2 and a half monthsThose are the players who've played the most
The rest of the regulars below haven't started or played a significant amount in 25 games
Livramento: 25
Miley: 22
Botman: 21
Joelinton: 21
Murphy: 21
Lascelles: 20
Pope: 20
Wilson: 17
Anderson: 14
Krafth: 12
Hall: 11
Barnes: 11
Willock: 10
Tonali: 8
I've likely got some numbers wrong but I think you get the general idea regardless.

I have to be completely honest like, it was completely over for me with him when he went to Man United on loan. I feel like I've given him credit where it's due since then, but the way he went there was a watershed moment for me and I just haven't liked him since. Probably a bit childish, but I can't help it.

I support Newcastle, if you think I'm going to turn my nose up at winning any cup then you're off your tits.

Anyone who's watched Trippier's career knows that he's got a rick in him, he even had a couple last season when he was our player of the season, but because of his age the assumption is that he's finished, which is just daft. He's clearly not fully fit as well. It'll be when his pace has completely gone that he'll be nearing the end.

He's got 8 goals in all comps. It's a good return, shows genuine improvement on previous seasons. It's a skill in itself to keep getting chances even if you miss them.
Yeah it's mad. Really bad season, but scored more in one season than Ginola did in his Newcastle career.

I swear that the definition of bottling it now is just 'being in a position to achieve something and then for any reason it doesn't happen'

I feel like we complain about a VAR decision in our office almost daily. Refs make mistakes too of course, but for me football was fine like that for 30+ years of my life. Aye you got shafted every now and then, but now when it happens it feels almost deliberate due to how long it takes to still reach the decision that shafts us.
I really don't feel like this is the case. The reason we have VAR is because everyone whinged for years about shocking decisions, I don't ever remember a time when it was fine.
When the decision is still wrong after it's gone to VAR it's 10x worse definitely, but it does feel like decisions are now right much more often since VAR's come in.

Thought he gave us a fair bit tbh. Unless you mean the bar [/rafa]
'Officiating' I should say. Thought he was poor first half, better second. I didn't spot the pen until the final angle but they didn't at all and it's their job.

I missed the game as was out - can someone sum it? were we robbed a pen again? did dubs just do nought again?
A bit of everything, poor, sometimes decent, missed loads of chances, poor defending, really poor goalkeeping, poor refereeing. We never looked right imo. At 1-0 and 1-1 we looked better but at 2-1 you just knew.

No I just see things as they really are, people like you defending no matter what and when you're called out you spit your dummies outAgain, you sound like every other person who's just like you.

That's still insane like. That's 40 fucking years.

Did I hear the commentator right..."Man United haven't lost after going ahead in a league game at Old Trafford since 1984" !?! Surely I misheard or that's a lie.

Under pressure my arse.

The big calls tonight for me were Joelinton and Pope and you're ultimately defined by the result regardless of which decision you make. Pope especially should have been a no-brainer if he's fit.

Harsh to say, but Trippier has repeatedly sabotaged Newcastle this season
Aye it's mad but he has. Although you can throw Dubravka in tonight as well.
Still love him though. Trippier that is.
-
Extremely disappointing result obviously. A real shame after the flow we were in pre-Brighton that it's ended like this. 7th or 8th looking very likely now, which is still an achievement considering the difficulties of this season, but no less raw and disappointing.
-
Dubravka: 3.5
Trippier: 4.5
Krafth: 6
Burn: 6
Hall: 8.5
Bruno: 6.5
Longstaff: 5
Anderson: 6
Murphy: 6
Isak: 5
Gordon: 7.5

Miggy sliding in for Gordon's ball across goal for me, but with hindsight it's dawned on me just how many chances we should have buried.
