This attitude is really starting to annoy me. Some fans seem to be supporting the manager more than the club these days.

Keegan isn't a miracle worker, especially when he's only got s*** players to turn into world beaters.

I say one word and you question my attitude.  Who the fuck are you to judge.   :knuppel2:

Keegan spreads optimism.  He makes the team play better football than fatty sam.  At least well enjoy it more.

If I was as prejudgemental as you, I would say you need some prozak.  But since I don't know shit about you, except you shit comment, I'm going to wait with my judgment.

Bloody hell mate, calm down. Who needs the prozak?

I meant the attitude which plenty of fans are sharing that Keegan is the reason to be happy, despite everything else at the club being shit. I just happened to quote you as you were the first to post it in this thread.

I totally disagree with this. why aren´t anyone alowed to have high hopes for a manager? Look at Sir Alex, look at Mourinho and look at Wenger (for example) and see all the hipe around them.

For me. A coach is a hugh part of a team. I can easily say that about 50% of a clubs performance is due to the manager and his staff.

I also don´t see the different in hoping Martins, Zog , Milner etc will improve and make us to a top team when you can´t say that a manager, who definitive has a bigger impact in a team than a singel player, will be the key person.

To sum this up. I totally disegree with the quote above.

there´s a difference between high hopes and hero worship though, and we seem to be pinning all of our faith on one man whenever things look a bit shady.

After what KK gave us last time he is a hero, and a bit of worship is no less than he deserves!

Also, the idea that he's only got shit players to work with, or that everything else at the club is crap, is utter nonsense anyway.

he deserves respect, but noone alive or dead deserves hero worship, and its not about what he deserves, its  about how healthy it is for our team.

Of course it's healthy for the team because it improves the atmosphere which lifts the players.

I believe 80% of the club is shit yes. Too many years of wrong decisions being made and wrong players brought in. It's going to take years to turn around, and too many people are hoping for an over-night success now the"saviour" is back.

i dont think the even the most confident people think we'll have over night success. fans need something to cling onto to believe in their club, if you think 80% of the club is shit can you really blame people for looking to him for the drive and inspiration? thats what a manager's job is after all isnt it, to lead from the front and motivate us all, players and fans alike? given what he's done here before, if KK isnt enough for you to have some optimism then i reckon you should give up. and dont start putting things like "saviour" and "messiah" in quotation marks, you look like a cockney journo.

I make Keegan a big reason for looking forward to 08/09.

He genuinely loves the club and the fans, and also has the small matter of having provided the best teams and the best football any of us have ever seen here on his cv. I've got more respect for him, speaking as a Newcastle fan, than anyone else I can think of in football. If he's given half a chance in terms of the players we bring in, I'd back him to do the business (by which I mean better football, and clear progress on the pitch) all day long. i dont follow mate, dont know which one you're talking about. fwiw i never wonder about anything the press say, if i was a football journalist i'd take the piss out of the teams i dont like too. if 52,000 people sang 'we dont expect a top ten finish kev, we'll give you time to get it right' do you honestly think the usual suspects would change their attitude towards us? which gets us on to the reason they dont like us, because we're a threat, thats why. we've already showed that if we get our act together we can be a very, very strong club. i also think a lot of fans are jealous of our support even through the bad times, which is why we get a lot of stick, all teams have rough patches, but we still turn up during ours. they dont like it so they try and get their claws in at every opportunity to bring us down.

Owen and Martins could be really good, but it's pretty risky and things have to happen in order for it to work. For example, Keegan needs to sort Owen out. He only worked last season in a very specialised role - if he's going to be a centre-forward then he needs to try and re-capture some of his pace and just start doing the clever things that he used to. However, i'm not too worried about this, it was plainly obvious that he is still a highly intelligent player, it's just his pace that i'm concerned about. He might have to change the way he plays the game again if he's going to succeed up top with one other striker.

(In fairness to Owen, when he was being played up top with one other striker, that other was usually Smith so i can cut Micky some slack).

And, as someone else said, it's imperative that we sign a creative midfielder.

Of course it's healthy for the team because it improves the atmosphere which lifts the players.

its healthy to be excited, but to pin all our hopes on kevin keegan being able to lift the players is asking for trouble. i´m optimistic about what keegan can achieve, but there is a difference.
