i've read the OP a couple of times and i can't see any sort of reason why we should have 8 successive seasons of boxing day (probably the worst day in the footballing calander for travel) away fixtures.

From that story and from the statistical likelihood of getting 8 consecutive away games on Boxing Day I'd hazard a guess that it's down to a request by the club or police, probably the club trying to be cheap and not wanting to pay anything extra to staff for having to open on a bank holiday.

I've always thought that we can be relied upon to send a decent number of fans to wherever they put us on Boxing Day, Plymouth? Aye put newcastle United there on boxing day, the fools will leave at 5.00pm on Christmas Day to get there.

Or something like that.

would be easy to build it into their contracts of employment, plenty of firms do.

Haha, yes the West Ham away games always fall in with Southend playing at Home. I know this as I used to go to Southend 5 or 6 times a season!

Out of interest, when were the fixtures actually put together? Was it last week?

Five days after the Championship play-off final Thompson produced his first draft of the fixtures. From that moment onwards it was all a case of refinement, refinement, refinement, with Thompson returning to his computer 30-40 times to try to improve his list.

I know, but when EXACTLY are they sorted. The only reason I'm asking is that I know for a fact that one club knew their fixtures last week. Why the delay in announcing them?

Perhaps their fixtures were done. The article suggests they work through all the requests and preferences in the build up to the release date.

Most of Scunthorpe's "big" home games (I know, they're all big games) are midweek, so I guess the police had a big say in the fixtures too.
