The other games today - 2009/10

Isnt Boyd the w***** who thinks that HE can decide whether he plays for the national squad or not. The one that gave the "v" signs to the camera ?

Nar, thats Ferguson and McGregor

It was him who decided he wasn't willing to play for them under Burley though, and has now said he wants to play for them again under Levein.

my scottish mate said that most of players and fans hated burley

It should be a privilege and an honour to represent your country whoever the manager is.

Not if the manager disrespects you the way Burley did to Boyd.

What did he do? Not that I agree.

Spouted a load of nonsense that Boyd hadn't proved himself at Rangers, which was clearly nonsense, his goal record for club and country speaks for itself.  This was right after he chose to bring on Iwelumo on for his debut when Scotland needed a goal against Norway, ignoring Boyd.  (Iwelumo missed an open net from 2 yards out when he came on)

Total hypocrisy.

So basically he didn't just play him much?

Still don't think that means you should turn your back on your country.

I've been very impressed with Song this season. It looks like Wenger has sorted out his DM problem.

Portsmouth weren't that bad. It's frightening how good Arsenal could become, if they can play that well with no physical presence up front, and without their best midfield player.

Song looks like he's going to be a hell of a player.

Song and Diaby are too messy for the defensive roles they take in Arsenal's system. They're both good players but there is definitely room for improvement. That Arsenal midfield still seems too porous to me.

Song is one of the best defensive midfielders in the league consistently brilliant all season and i worry for when he leaves for the ACN after the West ham game on Sunday!

Oh give over. He's having a good season but this is the same guy most Arsenal fans didn't rate much before the season started. A good half season doesn't make you "one of the best defensive midfielders in the league".

Yes it does. He's been one of their best players this season and easily deserves all the praise he's getting.

The second half of last season he was also very good, admittedly when he first came i gave him a very hard time, he single handedly cost the team points most noticeably against Fulham away but for the last 12 months he has been outstanding! He has been nothing short of amazing this season and i hope when he returns from the ACN he will be just as good!

I think he's under-rated to be honest. He is strong, good in the tackle, and doesn't give possesion away, his overall team play is very good, and converting him from centre back was very wise. All he needs to do is the basic stuff and he does that, then tonight he showed a bit of his potential class and even got a goal. I would say he's one of the best in there can you name 5 who are consistently better than him?

Mascherano is one, Essien is another, after that the league isn't blessed maybe Palacios?

Very good assessment, but he did come as a midfielder has played in defence but has remained in midfield! He really shone since going to Charlton for half a season!

Also, he's only 22!

(You lot might like to know his kid is named Nolan)

Sorry but this is a load of bollocks. I specifically remember the vast majority of Arsenal fans having a defensive midfielder top of their summer wish list. Time and time again i heard "We need a gilberto type player to partner Fabregas). Yes he's had a very good half season but how the hell does that prove he's one of the best dm's in the league? I could understand if you was saying "he's well on he's way to becoming one of the best".

Players like Maschereno, Essien (even though he isn't really a dm) , Barry, and Carrick have been consistently good season after season. Heck even the likes of Palacios and De jong have shown more in the premiership then Song has (altough song has been better than both this half season).

I seem to remember Cattermole having a good half season at Wigan but i don't remember anyone going on about him being one of the best defensive mids in the league.

Are you actually reading what i'm saying?

Where did i say he doesn't deserve all the praise? I'm admitting he's been superb this season so far BUT 6 months doesn't put you in the elite group of dm's, just means you're in excellent form. 80% of my mates are Gooners and they didn't rate him one bit before this season. Well no actually, some said he was a good prospect but all wanted a new dm.

But that's just it, he's playing very good NOW, not half a season at wigan a season back, it's now. If you're saying Essien isn't a DM then neither's Carrick, he plays way to high up the pitch to be considered a defensive midfielder, and that's before you factor Man Utd often play 4-4-2.

The reason he's deemed one of the best, is because the league isn't really blessed with defensive midfielders, and of those who are they don't really play defensive midfield that often, the likes of Heitinga, Neville, De Jong, even Barry all tend to play further up than a DM normally plays. They are supposed to only operate 5-10 yards into the opposing teams half when attacking.

Ok number 1, Carrick is a dm 100%. No way does he play high up the pitch. He sits infront of the back 4, he's a ball playing dm. Barry plays further up? wtf.

I think you're missing my point tbh. A player that hasn't played well then suddenly has an excellent 6 months simply means he's in great form.  Take Tom Huddlestone for instance. He's been superb this season but that doesn't mean i can claim he's one of the best cm's in the league, simply because he's playing as good as some of the best cm's in the league currently. I think people tend to get a little carried away with a players current form tbh.

Mate they are up in the final third, that's not a defensive midfielder?!? Where was Barry for the 4th goal against Sunderland? Defensive midfielders just sit. Same with Carrick, the final third is not defensive its offensive.

Huddlestone has played well but has he done it against the best teams? No, he much like most of the Spurs team went missing at the Emirates, Song right now hasn't so at this moment in time, like right now, he is one of the best, its not saying he HAS or HAS ALWAYS been, its RIGHT NOW, he is.

I can't put it simpler than that.

That is fucking hilarious. 100% of it is incorrect.
