Memories from the 70s, 80s, 90s

Keegan leaving in the helicopter is still one of my few really strong memories from being a kid. It was ridiculous when you stop and think about it.

Didnt trelford get banned from St James for his own safety?

He probably did, was he the ref against Brighton in the cup?

That game against Brighton when we were robbed, was it a midweek cup replay in the early 1980's? If so I remember standing in the Gallowgate for that and when they scored there was complete silence apart from the comical sight of about 8 Brighton fans jumping around in the away part of the Leazes!

I also remember going to Barnsley away in midweek around the same time period and we beat them 5 0, anyone remember that?

Gazza and Mirandinha destroying a decent Coventry side 3-0 in 1988 at Highfield Road,Gazza took the piss for 90 minutes out of Speedie, and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Here's a question for you relics, Did you prefer how football was in the 80's to now? Would you rather go back to unlimited away followings, standing on the terraces, s*** grounds etc. rather than a money, top 4 dominated Premier league, all seater stadia, lack of atmosphere etc

deffo the 80's.

Except for the fighting which was pretty horrific at times.

it did late 80's. but mostle involved a group of kids in fila tracksuit tops running sideways and landing poor punches on retreating tacchini clad youths.

anyone who travelled away independently (mainly train) in the early to mid 80's would at sometime have felt that adrenalin rush of something about to kick off.

I was at the 0-5 Barnsley game, I made friends with some lads from Barnsley and one came in our end for the game.  He became a big Newcastle fan after that and followed us all over the country.

Speaking of the 80s, is that Neil McDonald who was in charge of Blackburn today the one that played here?

Yes, he looked a bit like Waddle but wasn't very good most of the time.
