How come that Bowyer and Woodgate weren't allowed to play for England when their court case was ongoing yet Carroll can?

Probably the claim that the offence was racially motivated.

Did something similar happen with Beattie as well when he was done for drink driving?

Newcastle striker Andy Carroll was back in court today (Wednesday) for a plea and case management hearing at Newcastle Crown Court.

21 year-old Carroll was landed with an assault charge back in February of this year, following an investigation into an incident in a Tyneside night club last December.

A "not guilty" plea was entered by Carroll and his trial has been scheduled for October 2010. Judge John Milford will preside, with the trial anticipated to be four days or less.
