i would've liked Anelka in the summer, specifically thinking about partnering Owen or even Ameobi. though he broke though and made his name as a direct, pacy goalscorer, his game has changed quite a lot since then. present-day Anelka is a support striker, he works hard and has excellent movement and link-play especially when he gets into the wide areas (pretty good at holding the ball up too). he doesn't score many goals but would complement a penalty box predator and bring our wingers into the match.

at the moment though we have no one who will guarantee us goals so Bent would be the better option, not least because he has many more years to come. Bent's frame and general strength has developed a lot in the past 2 or 3 years, he's no longer the will of the wisp goal poacher who played for england under 21s. he is capable of playing up top alone and his movement across the width of the pitch has improved drastically. he has retained his goalscoring instinct too and looks like a fantastic option and someone who would complement Martins. his technique is not so good and this could hold him back in terms of making an impact in europe, but the likes of Drogba have shown that a poor technique can be overcome.
