OLIVIER Bernard has targeted a first-team return before the end of the season, more than two years after his last senior appearance for the Magpies.

The French full-back made a return to action on Wednesday for Lee Clark's second string after nearly three months out with a hip injury.

The 27-year-old lasted for 76 minutes of the 1-1 draw at Wigan Athletic and afterwards set his sights on a second debut for United, six seasons after his original Toon bow.

Bernard, who re-signed for Newcastle in September, told nufc.co.uk: "If I play well and keep on doing my best for the club then I don't see why the manager won't put me in the team.

"Hopefully it will only be a matter of time but I feel good.

Hmm, no transfer money, no left-back coming in, so let's bring Bernard back from nowhere, play him in the reserves, and get us all hoping he'll be close to first team action again. We're not f*cking stupid.
