NEWCASTLE United defender David Edgar has signed a new contract that will keep him at St. James' Park until 2009.

The Canadian starlet put pen to paper on the two-year deal before Saturday's final home game of the season against Blackburn Rovers.

Edgar will be famously remembered this season for scoring against Manchester United at Gallowgate on New Year's Day - a superb way to celebrate his home debut!

Talking about his new deal, he told nufc.co.uk: "I'm delighted to have signed the contract and to have my future at Newcastle United.

"I guess I'll always remember scoring against Manchester United as the highlight of the season.

"Now I aim to work hard and push for more chances in the first team next season."
