Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has been drafted into the England B squad for the clash with Albania next week.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form this season, even though Newcastle's defence has struggled collectively.

Taylor has been an almost ever-present, making a total of 44 appearances.

His performances at centre-half have now been recognised by Steve McClaren and he will now be hoping to get a chance at Turf Moor next Friday.

There will be competition for a place in the back four however, as Tottenham duo Ledley King and Michael Dawson, as well as Everton's Joleon Lescott, are also in the squad.

McClaren named his party last week and it included Taylor's Newcastle team-mates Michael Owen and Kieron Dyer.

Does anyone care about England anymore? Mclaren is a laughing stock the world over.

It's been coming... McClaren seems to go to every Newcastle game, ever.

Good for Taylor, but the fact that the likes of him, Dyer and Parker are getting in the squads - and not Milner - does make you wonder what on Earth McClaren has been watching.

For the record, David Nugent thinks Milner should start on the left for England, according to someone who met him in a club in Preston. Don't say I never give you the scoops.

disgrace really, milner has more right to be in the england set up than Downing IMO and that would just be playing out of position on the left, his time will come though and he is far from the finished article.

should have got the B call up though, dissapointed for him. Good for Taylor though, even if he isnt going to play the majority of the match.

Don't know much about Jagielka, but I'm sure Milner should be ahead of him, Downing, Jenas and Dyer on the basis of this season...

Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham), Ben Foster (Manchester United, on loan at Watford)

Defenders: Phil Neville (Everton), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Ledley King (Tottenham), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Nicky Shorey (Reading) (and now Taylor presumably)

Midfielders: Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Phil Jagielka (Sheffield United), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Kieron Dyer (Newcastle), Scott Parker (Newcastle), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Bentley (Blackburn)

Forwards: Michael Owen (Newcastle), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Alan Smith (Manchester United), David Nugent (Preston)

Boils down to a game to give him more fitness so he can save Maclaren's (and Englands) arse
