Paris Saint Germain defender David Rozehnal admits he would be perfectly happy to stay in the French capital should a move to Newcastle not materialise.

The Magpies are currently in negotiations with the Ligue 1 side regarding a deal for the Czech Republic international, having seen Borussia Dortmund drop out of the race after failing to agree terms with PSG.

Newcastle have reportedly offered nearly £3million to try and secure Rozehnal as Sam Allardyce looks to address pressing problems in his defence.

If a deal is not forthcoming though, Rozehnal is perfectly happy to continue with his career in France.

"The latest is that since Monday, negotiations have been going on," Rozehnal told Sport. "I know nothing more and am waiting for what my agent Mr Zika tells me.

"No (haven't been to Newcastle), I am now at home in Olomouc and am waiting for news.

"I would like a move to Germany, the quality of their league has been improving very quickly, but this counts also for Newcastle.

"I will see what happens and will not be sad if I stay in Paris. I am happy in Paris and my family likes it there as well.

"I have a good name there already so it would not be a disappointment for me to continue with PSG.

"I have to return to Paris on 27th June which is a date I keep in my mind. That means I am ready to continue in Paris in case the transfer is not done."

This transfer is so frustrating the papers say a deal agredd but qoutes from the player state he has not spoken to newcastle. I have my doubts this will go through and feel we will need to move to an alternative target.

no one said a deal was agreed

I think because we now have a good manager who has done well with players like this in the past, the disappointment is expected and a good thing as it shows trust in the manager's judgment to go out and get in players good enough for Newcastle.  I know nowt of the player like I said but if he doesn't sign I'd be a tad disappointed, because I trust the manager enough to know he won't be signing any bad players and we need good players.

Been thinking a bit about this of late and I know others, including myself, have expressed similar thoughts regarding trust in his decisions about players to bring in.

But is that trust really justified? It seems he made a lot of transfers at Bolton which didn't result in successful first teamers. In fact it looks more like for every 4 players he bought only 1 made it into a regular starting position. At the end of the day all that matters is having that successful team on the pitch, so does it matter how many players he buys that don't work out?

Well it does in this first season, because he has to be seen to turn things round quite dramatically. If for instance he brought 8 players in and only 2 or 3 really made the grade that might not help us too much. Also one has to consider the wage structure here at Newcastle is miles away from the one at Bolton. Can he bring players in on 10k when others in the team are, reputedly, on 8, 9 and even 10 times that?

There's a canny article here..

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_20010922/ai_n14407163

..that I hadn't read before. (Long read alert, 2 pages).

There's no doubt if he's given the time to implement his vision that he will transform this club. I for one don't care how many duds he buys, as long as they don't come with transfer figures like Boumsong and Luque, provided he get a bare-bones 16 players that are bleeding for the club week in week out.

I find that twat pretty much sums the 'man' up in my opinion. That word was near enough made for people like him.

I don't think Rozehnal fancies playing for us...You can sense it from the quotes...It seems he prefers the lifestyle in Paris (can't say anything against that) and he is not someone who is after money in the first place it seems...

I wouldn't want to sign a player who doesn't feel like that enthusiastic about NUFC...

Disagree completely that that is the only reading of the quote.

He's just being diplomatic in case he ends up staying where he is. Peter Beardsley was exactly the same out of respect for Everton fans before he came back. It doesn't mean he didn't want to come either. (I'm not comparing the two before anyone starts).

PSG are not a top club

does that make the situation better or worse regarding Fat Sam's abilities?

it means nothing about his abilities,he's lost out on one player to chelsea and maybe one more to germany,i can see why a czech would feel more at home in a germanic country.

all managers lose out on some players

I don't know, to me it seems more than being deplomatic...You can't say he doesn't prefer Dortmund over Newcastle...
