Alves would be far better value for money at 20m than Chimbonda would be at 12m. £12m fee for decent EPL player drives Chelsea closer to paying the £20m + Boulharouz for a potential world class player. This is a bloke who two years ago was a journeyman in France playing for Bastia getting a lot of racial abuse from players and fans alike. Two years on, he has a chance to join Chelsea and help his international prospects. I think it's a great story. It would be like some mid-table clobber of a full-back over here like Nicky Shorey going off to Spain to sign for Real Murcia, impressing so much that he won a spot in England's Euro 2008 squad and winning a move to Real Zaragoza, before having the chance to join Barcelona in his late 20s.
