I'm a tart now for having an opinion?

He said he's missed out on targets, and directed the blame towards the board, lets not forget that here.

Let's forget that he also said that it was because they were moving too slow, nothing to do with money.  They are learning as they go on, you can hardly hold that against them.

People are talking about poor finish last season an no Europe holding us back but why is this not the same for Man City?

Just excuses imo for us not going all out to bring in proper quality. Were planning to spend low, simple as, its not us trying and failing, its us not going anywhere near for the top quality or taking a chance on expensive English youth.

How many of the players that went to Man City turned us down?

Were not in for any of them as we simply do not have the cash to go for them, i thought i just said that already ???

Or that Allardyce doesn't want them perhaps?

He's said he's got money but the players he wants won't come because we have no European football, do you think he should just go out and spend money on players he doesn't want just to stop tarts like you whinging on a football forum?

He's also said since the players he wants won't come because we don't have European football, even though they've gone through the motions of putting in bids and doing the groundwork for transfers.

You sound like a tart because you're basically whinging that we haven't spent any money even though it's been made clear by manager and chairman that we have it, just the players they want are unavailable, this time tomorrow we could have brought in Viduka, Geremi, Barton, Smith, Rozenhal and Cacapa, Allardyce and Mort should be getting a pat on the back for bringing a group of players like that while spending little money in doing so, not bitched about because they haven't spent money on players they don't want for the sake of it.

The funny thing is if we had brought the 6 players in we have and spent £20 million net in doing so you would be happier about the situation.

Did Roeder try to take Bernard to West Ham?  I seem to remember that he did so I think it's very possible that the manager at the time Bernard came here wanted him.

As for hindsight, it's still true, are you now going to use your foresight and say those three players are going to be shite?

No i wouldn't, that's just a stupid thing to say really, even if you are just trying to prove a point.

I've done nothing but praise SA for the players he's brought in so far, but to say he's not working to a strict budget is madness. To suggest the only reason he's missed out on players is because they want European football is even more crazy.

He hasn't been backed the way i hoped for, and considering how important this season will be a little bit of spending would go a long way, we'll just end up playing catch up if these ones do not work out.

Big Sam will have a back-up list in case his number one targets failed to materialize like all good managers have, so effectively, he isn't being forced into signing these players ala Roeder with Bernard or Sibierski, he's signing players he rates and wants at the club, although not as much as those on his number one list of targets, obviously. And lets not forget that Big Sam profiles all potential signings first, so will know all about his targets. It isn't as if he's picking names out of a hat now

Has Allardyce ever said that he didn't have money?  He might have but I can't remember seeing it.

What he has said is that he's been unable to bring players in because they want European football, I guess he's a liar.

InvictaToon,

Who really cares if they are 27, 31, and 31, and have no Premiership Experience...

To start with, defenders age a lot better than most other players....the list of top defenders who have been effective well into their thirties is endless...you might have heard of that guy named Maldini, for starters. These guys aren't who you build your squad around, to be certain, but they most certainly have another good year or two left in them.

Second, who cares if they have Premiership experience when they are coming from leagues like France and Spain. Dragu was the starter for a team that just won two consecutive UEFA Cups....I think he'll be good enough for us. Cacapa has won five consecutive league titles with Lyon, three of them as captain. I think he'll probably be good enough for us too.....

as for french and spanish leagues, don't make me laugh. As for squad building, Sam is talking like Cacapa will be our next captain, so that's not the case either

.......not knowing SA exact budget, I suspect it is limited by the looks of things (guessing) that he has made some reasonable acqusitions (Geremi the best so far). Roze looks like he is also going to be reliable. If we're comparing to ManC then we already have 2/3 players who can make things happen/clinical etc and they didn't. So that is where Sven has been strengthening with his sexy purchases. What we needed above all was mf cover and a rock of a def and we're on the way to that imo. Kappa does look about 40 though. Having done a bit of research the left back is a real def full back which has been SA idea all along hence the no chase of Baines et al. I hope though there is one BIG purchase in this window.
