3 goals in the first half

I realise that HTT is joking here (for you newbies it was a common thread title from Crumpy Gunt over the past four seasons or so when he went under other names) - however, there will be an adjustment period for the Geordie nation if Big Sam is to last as our manager. When we travel to any ground and score three goals in the first half our tactic will always be to close the game down, run out the clock and in general play the dullest football possible. I think the only reason we did not see 100 back passes to Harper was because Big Sam has yet to fully implement his style and will on the team.

Long may it continue. IMO.

Nail on the head, CaliMag. It was a tactical decision once they pulled one back to close down the game and maintain the lead rather than try and increase it. Sam pulled out our three most attack-minded players and switched to a wholly defensive mindset. And it worked. I'm fully expecting to see this every time we have a significant lead at the half. Why go for goal #4 or 5 and leave yourself open for a counterattack when you can shut the game down and ride out a win? It may be boring but it's effective, and that's what counts.

Long may it continue, indeed, as long as there's 3 points at the end of it.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

do wish they could have kept possession better than they did, though.  seemed like the first pass was usually right back to bolton when we got hold of the ball, ****ing nervewracking at times; you had the feeling that if a 2nd had gone in for bolton a 3rd was almost inevitable.  didn't really exhale until about the 88th minute.

and what on earth justified 4 minutes of extra time?
