don't quite get that... so the goal wouldn't count?

It's not a goal at either end hence the 'indirect' part.

Pretty ambiguous though, so if you get an indirect freekick, lob it into the box and an opposing defender hits in his own net- that's still scoring an own goal from an indirect freekick.

From what I understand the whole "can't score from an indirect freekick" thing is from the free kick itself, once the ball has been kicked it's in play and goals can be scored at either end.

So you couldn't score a Nobby style free kick if it was indirect but you could cross it in for a team mate to stick in the net.

Nout to do with penalties, but did anyone else know that if you score an own goal from an indirect free kick it counts as a corner?  :cheesy:

always wondered why they don't just do away with indirect free-kicks.  If someone does something to warrant a free-kick, why not let the other side have a direct shot on goal?

Well, aye. That's indirectly gone into the goal.

Because indirect free kick offences are generally considred so minor that if they happened in the area would not warrant a penalty. Would you want a penalty awarded for a goalie taking more than six seconds? :D

And you can't score any free kick in your own net, indirect or direct.

Really?! I mean, I can't say I've ever seen it even close to happening, but... bizarre.

Law 12:

The Direct Free Kick

• if a direct free kick is kicked directly into the opponents’ goal, a goal is awarded

• if a direct free kick is kicked directly into the team’s own goal, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team The Indirect Free Kick

The answer to the question about the 6 seconds rule is that a yellow card could be shown next time the ball goes out of play.  Mind you the rule is never used now anyway

Didn't know that. Can't imagine I'm likely to see this in practice.

Didn't know it was for both, what a silly rule.
