This am not getting. Why did we pay up his remainder of his contract if he resigned? Surely that means he was sacked? Nope, it means we said we'll give you £1m now if you resign. If we have to sack you later, we'll take you to court and fight to not have to pay you anything.

hmm strangely the first I've heard of Speed coming back if we get Allardyce, suprised more people haven't mentioned it yet.
-
You missed the long article at the front of the paper Skirge mate:

and Sunderland. Hopefully shouldn't be too difficult
-
You know it really has been a shit season when one of the biggest reasons to be positive is "Black and white scarves"
-
Depends on who it is really. If it's a good manager, I'd expect a higher finish
-
I'd rather take my chances losing the manager before the transfer window rather than afterwards. I wouldn't have kept Roeder just to go through the summer with a manager so we'd make signings.
-
No we don't. Yes we do. The depth and elaboration behind some of the arguments in this thread are outstanding.
-
We've got nothing to thank him for really, except the end of last season and rounding it off the way we did, finishing 7th in a season we considered a 'failure'. It's nice to appreciate the man though, well for me it is anyways because I don't 'hate' him in the way I dislike Souness. He genuinely tried his best, it was just miles below what was good enough.

Well you're a honourable, moral man. Something that football managers aren't. If football managers cared about anything other than money, they would turn down jobs they thought they wouldn't be good at. He would have been insane to turn down the job; regardless of success the Newcastle manager's job is massive and for someone who was previously at West Ham, Gillingham and Watford, it's a dream come true. Blame him for being shit, blame him for terrible tactics and crap lineups, blame him for being delusional saying in the press he thought he'd be a success, blame him for not buying decent players, blame him for results, blame him for not resigning sooner, but he can't be blamed for accepting the job.
-
I should be Newcastle manager, my record as the club's head coach is amazing. I'm undefeated as Toon boss which is better than Bobby who lost games. Has about as much value as those stats. Who cares about Roeder's stats being better than Bobby's. SBR brought more success, and had us in the Top 5 on three occasions in three seasons.

His.. er.. hoensty, was it? Dignity? I don't know, people throw a lot of stuff around anyway. The guy would still be here if it was solely down to him. I've no doubt whatsoever he had pressure applied on him. You only had to read what he said after the game on Saturday, to see how deluded he actually is. He wanted to go nowhere, he was made to go. Should've resigned sooner, should have never taken the job and stuck to his original word. I'd have thanked him for either one of those, but not for "resigning", now. One game left. Aye, cheers, Glenn, I appreciate you. Because if you were offered a promotion, you would turn it down? Fact of the matter is, no one, whether you think you're good enough or not, would have turned down the manager's job. He's probably got enough money to retire now, it was a clever move by him. Granted, he probably should have resigned ages ago, I accept that. But you can't blame him for taking the job.

We were ruined 17 months before Roeder was hired mate; his name was Souness
-
FFS, Shearer and Keegan? Pearce and Shearer? Freddy to step down, Shearer new chairman? I'm embarassed to be associated with these freaks
-
Thanks for last season Glenn, shame about this. He did all he could, it's not his fault it wasn't good enough. He was only here as a stop-gap and we all know it. He did his best and he certainly gave us a few good games in his time here. The 7th place finish was a fantastic finish to a shit season and he steered us through a very difficult season this year with alot of injuries and other problems. Probably been the toughest season for a long time, it's a shame it came when we had a manager who wasn't strong enough to cope. A nice bloke and I'm happy that at least he tried.
-
Clear the club of all of the previous crap. We need a fresh start with no reminders of Roeder OR Souness. Stuff this Geordie coach crap and get some real coaches in regardless of where they're from.
-
12 hours after we lost our previous manager? We surely can't be THAT organised?
-
What could there possibly be a Press Conference about though?
-
aye like the bloke who said "Stuff Allardyce, I don't want to play the longball and not win anything. We need Shearer in, that's who we need fucking muppets they are
-
Oliver: Allardyce within a fortnight
-
Said that he's spoken to Glenn and he sensed a mood of anger. Roeder said it started so well for him and alot of what stopped him being successful was out of his control.
-
Saying Pearson will be asked to take the last game. He's close to Glenn and could refuse however, if he does then they'll ask Lee Clark and Terry Mac to take charge.
-
On SSN now, media whore
-
Says that Allardyce is the clear-cut choice, it's who Shepherd wants. Says the fans fall into 3 categories, "Those who will welcome Sam with open arms" "Those that don't want Allardyce at all" and "Those that would have anyone as long as Roeder is gone"
