    Steve Harper

According to Opta Stats Harper's not doing too badly. This is from SkySports feature on who would make the England XI on form: Goalkeeper Steve Harper (Newcastle United) Harper has achieved an impressive 83 per cent saves-to-shots ratio in the Premier League so far this season and has a 100 per cent catch success rate. He has also managed to keep a clean sheet in two of his four games. It is worth noting, however, that if Kasper Schmeichel was the top-rated eligible player but the young keeper has already announced that he will play for Denmark. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11096_2712483,00.html
  2. I always found it odd that NUFC was the only prem club to use blue numbers and letters during the 03 - 05 years. It made it next to impossible to get names and numbers anywhere but Newcastle from about Christmas 05 onward.
  3. I know it might seem like pandering to the supporters but I don't care. I think it's fantastic to see Mike Ashley in his toon top surrounded by suits!
  4. Fantastic - thanks for the help. As bizarre as it may seem I am coming to the UK from Canada on business and I wouldn't book my appointments until the fixture list came out!! My clients think I am a nutter.
  5. Which airport is closest to Reading? Do I have to fly to London and get a train (about 35 minutes?). I will be in the UK on Oct. 27 but getting all the way South may be difficult. Cheers for the help, I don't know that area at all.

    Rules question

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum. Scenario: a centre back is under pressure and tries to clear the ball but miskicks it and it slices back to the keeper - can the keeper pick it up? There was no intentional back pass but the last touch was from his own player. My reaction was that the keeper was not allowed to touch it and it was an indirect free kick from the point where the defender last touched it. The opposition claimed that because there was no deliberate pass to the keeper he could play it. This is in a u12 boy's developmental league. Thoughts? Cheers for the help.
  8. Cheers for the replies. Our 11-a-side team is not a hoof-it-and-hope type of team but it has been deteriorating. I think I'll go with the 7-a-side this summer. I play indoor which is 6-a-side but the game is very different because of the walls. Keeps the fitness level up but I find the skill level drops because whenever someone is under pressure they ping it off the wall to noone in particular.
  9. For the upcoming season I have to choose between a regular league and a 7 a side league. Does anyone here play 7 a side football? Has anyone recently switched? Better or worse? Any input would be welcome!

    Football pet hates

When Americans are accused of making up the word "soccer" when it is British slang for Association Football. Snobs...
  11. I think that they have a better than average chance of reinstatement. For starters, I think that UEFA has frightened the supporters and ultimately that was their first goal. Second, it is very difficult to make a case against a corporation (ultimately to penalize the corporation) when those at issue are not employees or directors and have no direct relationship. You could make the case that the ticket transaction ties them to the corporation but that has been disproven many times and is why there is the fine print on the back of the ticket holding the corporation harmless. Besides, I want the spuds to get seven shades of shite kicked out of them at every turn.
  12. I hate to burst the feelgood bubble but having travelled to Newcastle twice now for matches, I would offer a couple of words of warning. The locals are not as friendly as they claim. I stopped several to ask for directions and was either ignored or they had no time for me. Finally a Scot who was just visiting helped me out. Trying to talk to anyone at the pub or at the match seemed to be a non starter. The friendliest guy was at the club shop and he was from Dublin. I think a big part of it may be my Canadian accent which the locals took for American. I have travelled quite a bit in my life and always make an effort to talk to the locals and I find Newcastle was as unfriendly as London. As far as racism goes, I was shocked at how openly and aggressively racist people were. At the Citeh match last year the nutter beside me started calling out racist comments every time Sun Jihai touched the ball!?! Oh and btw, steer clear of the packs of Chavs that you will no doubt see - they are pretty aggressive. I think you will have a great time - just keep your guard up like travelling anywhere else.

    New team name

How about an American style name: Giants Athletics Predators or simply the "Giant Athletic Predators" I could go on but I won't...

  18. I am curious why Millwall are such a problem. I am aware of their reputation and know some of the history but am not clear on why. Do they come from a particularly poor/ violent/ f*cked up area?
