Literally smiled watching that

Any journalist out there who says shit like "the club will always attract interest" can go jump off a cliff. We've been effectively up for sale for an eternity with an owner who bled the club dry, had an insanely high asking price and constantly played games in his efforts to sell in earnest. We finally had a real and willing buyer who even agreed to pay his "retrade" price once exclusivity ended and the league blocked fresh, hungry capital into the club and region.

so for Penn and Glen Johnson over here - you're aiming your frustrations at a journalist who had a line into what was likely our future CEO under new ownership and was telling us whatever he was told - and again, you're blaming him. You're having a go at him. You're wasting your precious time trying to say he should have dug even further into this.

Aye, seems dodgy how Golfmag’s saying the PL we’re saying ‘oh, we were just about to approve it, honest’, just as they pull the plug. Doesn’t sit right, that. it doesn't actually make any business sense. it doesn't make common sense. the league may have been telling the bidders this for ages (hence the positive tone to Caulkin) and then kept pushing this along as long and far as possible. but ultimately they never made a decision. if they did, if they passed them the bloody consortium would have said that TODAY

The idea that this test is some fucking super strict process to own a bloody football club is rotten to the core. A group of people in a club known as the PL board have successfully stalled the takeover and allowed a checked-out owner with no desire to better the club or city fuck and fuck over the fans. Other clubs in the league care more about their own personal gains of course than a revitalized newcastle untied, and those same clubs maybe had a hand in the stall tactics. i'm glad competition for them is more important than say, the city of newcastle getting a lift because of all of this.

There isn't a chance the PL passed PIF/PCP/RB. It would have been clearly stated by AS and in the statement. It was clear that there was literally no timeline or assurances it would ever pass, coupled with MA wanting to likely re-cut the deal with exclusivity ended. MA probably thought they'd never pass anyway and said you can tie it up for X price and X additional non-refundable money. The consortium said, fuck off.
-
Genuine question... would it be that easy, or would they have to start the whole process again? I.e. could PIF have just stepped away and PCP/Reubens have just put the cash up (if they had it)? My guess is if PCP and the Reubens told MA they would reinstate the contract or agree at X price, the tests would be done in 1-2 weeks and the deal would be done.

Yep, bang on that was what happened. Time ended the exclusivity. The deal was essentially off between Mike and the consortium. The league also was still no closer to approving. PIF said fuck this, we're tired of having to sit back and take this shit from the PL and its allies (Qatar, other top PL clubs) and the seller is trying to rake us over fire.

Nope - was the drop dead date mate that killed it. That's what expired imho. The exclusivity wasn't going to be a problem in week 1 when they had 16 weeks to get it closed. But the league allowed for this to happen showing no urgency and allowing a lunatic like MA the chance to find a way to sell to someone else.
