Unless a ‘superstar’ or playing for Real, Juve or someone the wages on the continent are fairly easy to match for most PL teams. I think Italy’s tax situation helps them to be very competitive. But otherwise the wages aren’t crazy typically. Hence the starting choice LB from Atleti joining Forest.

3rd choice CBs for CL teams get plenty of game time. Fine for Schar to keep the shirt until Pavard earns it off him. 27 is a good age for a CB.

We can't play like that, though. In their pomp Liverpool had two rapid, strong CBs happy to play 2 v 1 or 2 v 2. Both of our CBs are slow and can be killed if turned. Burn ensures we are rarely left 2v2 in defence. Villa setup similar to us with Young sitting in deep and the Spanish lad pushing on. It provides solidity. The best 2 teams in England regularly start with 1 CB playing fullback. City often play with 2 centrebacks at fullback. Real Madrid won the CL and La Liga with 2 fullbacks that are primarily strong defensively. We need a better player than Burn for sure and he needs pace. But I'm not against the general profile. I’ve grown to like the idea of a pacy Burn like tall fullback. Like a young Tyrone Mings or Ake. We’ve underperformed from Set pieces this season but with our size profile we can improve. Tighten up in both boxes and we concede 3 or 4 less and score 3 or 4 more.

But injuries happen with more games and then more games are missed. Laporte is out of favour and has been injured. 19 starts. Lindelof 22 starts. Joe Gomez. 22 starts. AWB 22 starts. Between Rob Holding & the new guy - they've started 20 games. They are the 4th and 5th choice CBs for Arsenal.

I like all of those at those prices tbf. Benoît Badiashile - decent fee too.

A CL side needs to be comfortable with back-up players getting 20 starts. I love Lascelles. He can't start 20 games for us man.

People still over-rating Dubs I see. We need a backup GK that has a similarish profile to Pope. At least one that steps off his line. That changes so much about our game And I expect Dubs to go in search of first-team football.

We could do with a proper backup GK tbf. We'll need to sell a winger to get one in.

We'll spend £200m+ next season. That won't get us as far as people might think. That's what us, Arsenal, Forest & West Ham spent this season.
