We have him and Martin Tyler.  After briefly discussing political divisions in previous Spanish squads:

I checked Twitter, and he did actually say it.

Maybe.  But Germany would have to score, which is hard to do when you watch Spain tip-tap around for 45 minutes.

I can only assume that the people who thought that was dull and negative don't care much for football that isn't played on an X-Box.

The most baffling thing is that Germany hasn't had - on paper - a great squad since probably the mid-90s, and their players never quite excel at club level. Yet they have kept getting to the business end of most major tournaments, and they may well win this one.

 

They somehow manage to play like a club side, with great tactical movement and solidness, while most other NTs are always much less sophisticated and organized (Spain for example just doesn't have the penetration of the Barcelona side even though they try to be the NT version of it).

Infuriating is another word you could use. 

I don't think I buy this argument about it all being the result of the German academy structure either.  Or it only explains why they are developing talented players.  How exactly you get 20 year olds like Ozul & Muller demonstrating that sort of maturity and discipline is something else.

I'm going to pretend I'm fine with this signing and that I have realistic expectations for next season, and that Perch will be a good squad player for us. 

But when next season starts and the reality of struggling every week sets in, I'm going to change my mind, panic, and claim this signing was a sign of both limited ambition and Hughton's poor judgment.

You would need players of better technical ability and coaches with experience of the system.

Just about every foul is committed with the intention of gaining an unfair advantage. Does that make every footballer who has committed a foul (ie every last one of them) a cheat? 

There is no intention to decieve the referee.  That is the important part.  No one castigates a defender that clips the heels of an attacker that is through on goal and gets punished. 

Suarez committed a foul, no one was physically harmed, and his punishment fit the crime.  Penalty + suspension.  Ghana are out because Gyan missed a penalty.  Simple as that.
