  1. There is so little to be proud about when it comes to this club.  :undecided:

I don't know who to believe - and neither do any of you - but if Ashley is actually as passionate about the club as the post makes him seem, then he needs to look at changing the administration of the club.  His appointments need to reflect his passion.  Why does it take this total meltdown - these two weeks of embarassment and farce - in order for a personal statement from someone in charge?

Where are his APPOINTMENTS?  Where are they, what do they do?  I have no doubt that he has poured his own money into the club, but the Gestapo & the KGB had better PR & media relations.  Take charge....communicate, manage, lead.

  2. And people have the cheek to praise our transfer policy. So many average players on the pitch

    Butt, Ameobi, Geremi, Edgar, Taylor

    N'zogbia at left back

Xisco finally managed to get his boots on the right feet for the tap in

The fact that we'll miss Danny f***ing Guthrie while he's out says it all. For f*** sake.

Guthrie is a good player. Ameobi starting is just wrong. we need a right winger and we need a right back. but we've had a better transfer window than a lot of clubs.

That isn't saying much given the state of the squad.  We needed an exceptional transfer window and we got one good player, one pretty good player and some unknowns.  Fail.

Just woke up with a splitting fucking headache.  Glad I missed this one.  Hull FFS.  Doesn't get much worse than that.

  3. Wenger said it was a "one-off" but tbh I think if he was given the chance, he could perform well on a big stage.

Wenger is probably just trying to control the outrageous expectations that will follow him around after that performance.  The media build you up only so they can knock you down.

  4. Honest question: do we need manager?  Aren't they really looking for someone to act as a head coach?  I can't help but feel as though another appointment would be pointless.  None of the names mentioned are particularly exciting, and I don't know if they are worth the risk.  Zico & Deschamps have big names and big reputations, but their resumes as managers are fairly thin.  They aren't necessarily any better at their jobs or more suitable simply because they are famous.  If a very qualified candidate comes along, fair enough, but so far that hasn't been the case.

I'll put my tin hat on, but give the job to Hughton for a few weeks and see what he can make of it.  See how the players perform and respond to him.  He's young, he knows the players by now, hopefully they trust him, and he has seen what works and what doesn't in the past year.  Instead of spending big money on another manager, try spending that money on a first rate coaching staff to replace the old boys who quit with Keegan.

    Did Roeder not happen ??

Roeder's problem was his ineptitude as a manager: signing players and building a squad.  Our next appointment won't have to worry about that.

  6. p.s im not trying to start a oldboard v new board argument, im trying to figure out why the sheer hatred towards the mistakes this board has made compared to what mistakes previous owners have made. Honestly...

That is history and this is now?

  7. How good is his English?  How thorough is his knowledge of the Premiership?  What is his tactical preference?  Is he charismatic enough to win over the disillusioned squad?

On second thought, who cares.  Just appoint him, see what happens.  Or Terim.  Or Poyet.  Or Houghton.  Anyone else finding this managerial search as about as exciting as doing your taxes?

  8. The best you can hope for is quiet, polite apathy.  But the reality of the situation is that supporters are likely going to vent their frustrations.  It might be a good thing or a bad thing, but it's an unavoidable outcome.  Blaming Ashley, Wise, Keegan, the media or plain old bad luck doesn't change the fact that the club has been run like a circus in recent years and it leaves supporters with very little to be positive about.

  9. Can I just say, Sir Bobby Robson is a legend.

My view is quite clear. You cannot work for Newcastle United from the other end of the country. Dennis Wise has to be based in Newcastle, meeting the manager regularly, talking to him, understanding what he wants. If he will not do that and put the club first by moving north, you have to get rid of him.

    ...

It reminded me of a pre-season match at Doncaster. I was sitting at the back of the stand and Dennis, who had watched the first half much nearer the front, accidentally tried to take my seat when I had popped away for a half-time cup of tea. His reasons later became clear to me: he wanted to slip out unnoticed 10 minutes into the second half. At such a crucial time for watching and learning, as pre-season is, I was surprised - I would have thought he would have wanted to watch the game to the end, and talk with Kevin about where the team needed strengthening.

The great man has spoken.  Wise.  Out.

  10. I remember reading this when it was posted during the summer and thinking it sounded about right.

This thread is actually the perfect testament to how completely predictable this whole melt down was.  The adage 'never a dull moment with this club' no longer applies.  This is all very dull.  Failure has become a fucking habit.

  11. Do people actually want Shearer? Yes, iconic, one of the most popular men in NUFC's history... but do you seriously think he'd do a good job? "Knowing the club" and "having the respect of the players" doesn't cut it 99% of the time. He needs experience.

    As a no.2, perhaps.

This isn't 99% of the time, this is a club in an exceptionally shit situation.  Winning over the players and the fans will be the first priority of the next manager.  I'd take a chance on his actual managerial abilities for now.  I certainly don't buy this argument that all managers should have to work their way up from League 2 in order to prove themselves.

  12. The best thing Ashley can do is throw Dennis Wise under the bus ASAP.  I want some blood, and that beady eyed cockney dwarf's head on pike would make me feel better.

Then get rid of Jimenez & Llambas.  Acknowledge failure, accept responsibility.  If Keegan goes, he should clear the fucking lot out.  The worst thing he can do is defend the cronies that have derailed this season.

  13. Bet the likes of Xisco feel just grand.

Without them meaning to at all their arrivals have played a part in Keegan's departure.

I do feel sort of sorry for those two.  They won't be popular, and it really isn't their fault.
