I can't say I agree with them effectively ending the man's career when he has an obvious addiction problem. Maybe a 6 month ban with him getting some sort of counselling would have been a more constructive approach rather than just throwing the book at him and potentially making his problem worse. That would give him a chance to overcome his problems and see out his playing career with some game time.
