  1. Ah the old Porto argument. How many times have we seen it's much easier to win a tournament than a league? Why don't we get that bloke who won the European Championships with Greece?

If Paul Scholes' perfectly legit goal against Porto had counted, they'd have been out.

Not saying Mourinho's not a top class manager or anything, cos he quite clearly is and I'd love him at NUFC, but the way some people go on, you'd think he was untouchable. He's not on Wenger's planet for example, or Fergie's for that matter.

Otto Rehagel? No thanks. Boring boring boring... Greece had a great defence, but they were as entertaining as a usual mackem. :-)

  2. All the papers and the betting is leading with Hughes so someone must know something, plus when interviewed he refused to rule out thye move.

Hughes may not be the big name that most fans want but, his cv for revitalising teams, his record in the transfer market and his way of playing seems to fit the bill.

he took a bad wales team into the playoffs for euro 2004, and in his second season after stabilising the team, he got them into europe.

    Hughes would be my bet.

    Hmmm...not overexcited! :-(

  3. The only article I can find so far:

Former Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has refused to rule himself out of a return to St James' Park - but would you welcome him back?

Do you think the former England boss could have a positive impact if he stepped back into the Toon hot seat?

Would he be greeted as a messiah by the Geordie faithful or has his time gone?

Would a Keegan/Shearer partnership be the 'dream team' to resurrect the Magpies fortunes?

KK back? Anytime... :-) Especially together with Shearer.

  4. Once (if!) he is appointed, I'll back him 100%.

However until he is officially our manager, I will voice my concern/unhappiness as I think we could have done better.

What do you mean with 100%??? That sound like blind faith... I think it is absolutely okay to expect some constant improvement. Nobody says it has to be turn around in a weeks time, but it should be an ongoing process...

  5. IF our new manager turns out to be Harry Redknapp we must get behind him and the club. Give them a chance and hope (with funding) they make a good go of it.

We may not agree with it but we rarely do and a fractious atmosphere round the place is not going to improve things. Nothing would be worse for the future of NUFC than trying to get rid of Redknapp before he has had a chance (and yes i do believe Allardyce had enough of a chance).

Who knows what Redknapp can achieve with backing ? I know this could be said of the previous but that wasn't going to happen and the rights and wrongs of it will only get in the way now.

Are we Newcastle UNITED ? or are we going to continue letting ourselves be a spectacle for the medias ridicule ?

    HOWAY THE LADS !

People on here said the same when we hired Souness, Roeder and BS...

  6. Mourinho never got a crisis club out of the shit. In any country he trained with one of the best (if not the best) teams... Not that I am saying he's not able to turn things round, but for me it's all but guaranteed!

  7. Got a feeling that he's trying to get Hitzfeld... :-( But still think he'll take over as Manager of the Swiss National Side! I think MA will decide as a supporter somehow. Think he really wants entertainment in the Keegan fashion - the same as most of the supporters. Got faith in MA so far. Hope it will not be a British manager...

  8. Ashley has to:

    a) sign a top-quality NON-ENGLISH manager

    b) give them some $$$ to buy top quality players

The hard truth is that were are exactly where we should be with this squad (i.e. mid-table). We have a lot of average and slightly above average players, but not the quality of players needed to get back into the Champion's League. Aside from Owen, Given, and maybe Taylor & Beye, we don't have any players who would be starting for the likes of Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, or Arsenal.

That's why we're stuck in mid-table, not because of who our manager is.

Unless Ashley starts splashing out the cash, whomever out next manager is won't do any better than Big Sam.

Sorry, but Taylor wouldn't start in any of the mentioned 4 teams...

  9. Its referring to his trials in Italy.

"He didn't plan to sign there - as his dream is to play in England -, but he knew he can get a lot of experience."

I knew that. We English are actually very good at other languages: most know at least 6 but we pretend we don't just to piss people off.

    :-)))

  10. Coaching staff: Defensive minded

    New Players: Defenders

    Future: :(

    :-)

Not that I like to watch defensive football - but isn't that where we need to improve first up?  Get it right in defence first and then think about attacking? or am I just too conservative? ???

You need to be taken out back and a high calibre gun taken to your head and be put out of your misery.  blueyes.gif

  11. According to reports Ramos is prepared to allow the following to leave:

    Paul Robinson

    Pascal Cimbonda

    Jermain Defoe

    Lee-Young Pyo

    Anthony Gardner

    Hossam Ghaly

    Wayne Routledge

    Paul Stalteri

Who if any of these do you think could improve our squad?

I would try and pick up Chimbonda, Defoe, Lee and Routledge personally. Chimbonda can play centre back or right back, Lee can play left back or left midfield and would offer good cover, Routledge has pace and needs games. I thought he was a good player when spurs signed him but he was never really given the run of games he needs and Defoe is a natural goalscorer if we were to bid rid of Oba.

Don't slate me, but I always thought that Lee is not a bad player?!?!? :-/

  12. Better than Martins as a footballer, more likely to score regularly, but worries over commitment and fitness -

better than what we have(in view of Owen's fitness problems), but not top notch - however, would take him in our current situation.

Better than Martins? If you say so... :-/

  13. think he is better than martins :S

(because what ive seen of martins so far is that he is completely out of form, and seems to be underachieving)

agree on the Robbie Keane also. Would love him here, but can't see tottenham selling their, by far, best player. included berbatov.

In your dreams mate. Not only is Berbatov better then Keane but so is Steed and Ledley and i would also like to See Bent start ahead of him sometimes.

Im glad someone said this because sorry Robbie Keanes way overated!Ok so he scores alot of pens...well used to anyways! But he can be such a frustuating player when things dont go his way!He stands around with his hand on his hips!

Anyways Defoe...depends on price if we get him around the 5mil mark then yes cos theres no doubting hes a quality striker but we should be looking for creative and right sided midfielder first!

totally agree here about Robbie Keane...

  14. where the hell is andres d'allessandro? he was f****** immense for portsmouth! he's exactly the type we need at the moment if he is available!

and please...stop mentioning diego, van der vaart, riquelme and their kind who we are not going to be able to lure to newcastle.

arshavin?have seen him in like 3 games or something, he is good. Can also play at the right wing which is a good thing.

D'Alessandro plays for Saragossa i think. Good shout. Would love him here...

  15. Quite ironic that Smith is castigated for his lack of goals - despite playing in midfield for the majority of games, and Emre is touted as a "top ball player" [who also doesn't score goals] and Nolan is written off [who does score goals]

First time in a long while that i agree with Ne5. What we need is someone who makes things happen in midfield and gets stuck in, Nolan does both.

Not that i don't like players that stuck in, but I don't want a team full of these character... How boring would it be!
