http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastle-target-loic-remy-must-1526469 Newcastle transfer target Loic Remy has been told he has to up his game by his boss at current club Marseille. Remy is Toon chief Alan Pardew’s first-choice replacement for Demba Ba, who was sold to Chelsea last week, even though he has scored in just two games this season. Newcastle are prepared to be patient as long as it means landing the right man, and will refuse to pay over the odds, believing that both Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa could both play the “No 10” withdrawn striker role in support of Papiss Cisse if no deal is done. Meanwhile, Marseille coach Elie Baup has questioned Remy’s form, and suggested the France international may stay at the club until the summer. Remy, who's also a target for Queens Park Rangers and has previously been linked with Tottenham, has scored 28 goals in 53 starts for Marseille since joining in summer 2010 from Nice. However, he has managed just three in 19 appearances this season, with the last of those three strikes coming in November. The only other game in which he has scored was a comprehensive Europa League defeat of Cypriot side Limassol - who finished bottom of their shared group - in October. Baup appears to be attempting to play mind-games with Newcastle, and has told the Geordies to put up or shut up. He said of Remy: “He seeks primarily to regain his touch. The physical side, he has found. He must now partner that with the co-ordination of movements and feeling of the game. “For a year, every transfer window, we have been talking about his departure. But he is still there - maybe he still will be in the summer. “As this is the third transfer window where we are talking about his departure, he is not focusing on it.” Remy, 26, is in Morocco at a training camp this week, while Newcastle have officials in France trying to do a deal. Newcastle, meanwhile, who are ready to give new-boy full-back Mathieu Debuchy his debut against Norwich this weekend, also want to sign another defender in the window. Skipper Fabricio Coloccini should also be back to face former Toon boss Chris Hughton, but the injured Cabaye is still out and Cheick Tiote has left for the Africa Cup of Nations. Pardew is desperate for reinforcements to help dig his side out of a run of 11 defeats in 14 games - including last weekend’s FA Cup disaster against Brighton, which left many annoyed by the team's lack of fight.

Brighter news. I know Nigeria realise they'd actually be doing us a favour if they did take action. -

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jan/08/yohan-cabaye-newcastle-injured There was more bad news for Newcastle United on Tuesday when it emerged that Yohan Cabaye is unlikely to have recovered from a groin injury in time to return to Alan Pardew's team for their vital Premier League game at Norwich on Saturday. With the Magpies having lost nine of their last 11 League games, Pardew, admits the club's season is "on a knife edge" and had hoped his France playmaker would be fit for the weekend. Newcastle's manager is also likely to be without Steven Taylor, who is struggling with a hamstring injury, at Carrow Road, as well as the similarly hamstrung Hatem Ben Arfa and the suspended Shola Ameobi. While Ben Arfa is scheduled to return to action next month, Cabaye and Taylor had originally been pencilled in to face Chris Hughton's team but Pardew is not prepared to gamble on rushing them back too soon. "It's no good if someone plays one game and then is out for another five weeks," he said. However, Mathieu Débuchy, the France right-back newly signed from Lille, will make his debut in Norfolk where Papiss Cissé and Fabricio Coloccini – missing for Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Brighton – should be fit to start. Jonás Gutiérrez, recently sidelined by a knee injury, may be included in the squad. One piece of brighter news for Pardew – who remains hopeful of signing the Marseille striker Loïc Rémy – is that Nigeria will not be invoking any Fifa disciplinary procedures against Shola Ameobi or Newcastle after he ignored a call-up for the Africa Cup of Nations. -
It is what we have always needed. As good as Ba was, he was more of an opportunist relying on his strength to get an opening. He never really stretched the other teams defence. In fairness to Pardew, I do think he was after a player to do just that when we were linked to Erdinc. We ended up with Cisse, and it just didn't work with him and Ba as a partnership. Remy would be the perfect foil imo. Ok he may not have scored many recently, but his pace must still be there to benefit Cisse as the main striker.

Sure they were looking for a loan with option to buy.

Is it anything to do with Louis Tussauds taking the helm?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jan/07/football-transfer-news Rémy Newcastle United Loïc Rémy, the Marseille striker, moved a step closer to joining Newcastle as Demba Ba's replacement on Monday when he reportedly rejected overtures from Harry Redknapp to sign for Queens Park Rangers. Although other Premier League and Bundesliga clubs retain an interest in Rémy, Newcastle officials flew to the south of France over the weekend to negotiate a deal which could cost as much as £11m. A QPR delegation including Redknapp has also visited Marseille but the player's heart appears to be set on a future at St James' Park. Although reports in France on Tuesday suggesting Remy had travelled to Tyneside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical may have been premature, Newcastle aim to secure a deal sooner rather than later as they strive to pull clear of the relegation zone. Alan Pardew is also exploring the possibility of bringing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the St Etienne forward, to Newcastle. Munter Louise Taylor

Looks more likely than not at the minute, only worried about him fancying Germany more. But who could fancy Germany more than Debuchy and Cabaye? If he turned down qpr straight away, surley he could have got shot of us at the same time. Never know but just seems strange not to do that. Mind you we're all paranoid as fuck.

To be fair to Oba, he was probably aiming for her tits.
