  1. The distances and shape between our midfield 3 and defence is just way off. Our only patterns of play for building out from the back are round the sides to the full backs then down the line old school channel ball, or into Bruno as a lonely DM with no-one else near him. We've got to be way better playing out. Sandro and Joelinton have to offer for the ball more and support Bruno to build out. I feel Howe's got to find a new balance to the team personnel or setup in midfield as this one isn't doing it at all.

They do all this narrative about getting top 4, then finish on the Spurs episode without mentioning they were our key rival at the time for the spot.

The Willock pass is one of the most delicious things I've ever seen in our shirt.

I want that pass analysed like Hawkeye does with cricket deliveries. Give me the rate of spin on the ball, the degrees of curve on the air, then the deviation off the seam on bouncing on the floor. Show me the trajectory of that pass with no spin travelling straight on, how it’s likely have ended up as a tame back pass to their goalkeeper.

Some nerd somewhere must be needing suitable subject matter for their Masters or PhD project!!

  3. The NUFC interviewer must get paid for the amount of times he can get a footballer to say "like i just said." Every interview he does he ignores the answer just given, and then asks a question that will elicit the very same answer.

Interviewer question 1: [can't be bothered to type it]

Lewis Hall: "the transition phase Newcastle's going through is a big reason for me wanting to join."

Interviewer: "what are the main reasons for making this move now?"

Lewis Hall: "a few reasons, like i said, the transition phase we're going through right now. Like I said before..."

It's just disgusting to listen to.

For a professional footballer he didn't seem to like watching football

To be fair, in the years when he was growing up, we didn't actually play football, we merely participated in it

Enjoyed it but I thought the fans were worse than the owners like with the cliched shit

    "Geordie Nation"
"If we win, the country will never have seen a response like up north"

Shit like that makes us look ridiculous.

Stop being so worried about what everyone else thinks of newcastle fans and just get on with being a fan. I’m 31 years deep as a Newcastle fan, having grown up in cardiff and adopted the club as a youngster. I’m in Bristol now having lived in London. But I love absolutely love my trips to Newcastle, to matches, and would kill to be from the area with local stories to tell.

When I come up from down south I’ll happily embrace the Black Garter and any other recommendations locals have for me, and all my mates from back in Bristol and London will hear I’ve had a class time with the passionate Geordie fans. We do us, and the rest of the nation can get to funk!

    HTL!

I have dug out the highlights from us beating Chelsea at home last season and Hall’s positioning is all over the place when we attack.

Thank you for posting this. That was our best knee slide of the season at the end there!

Nice of that gimp ten Hag to do Eddie's team talk for him. We absolutely fucking battered them.

I’m in the middle of a barbell squats set and I’ve just shat my pants a little having watched that. Damn, need to sneak past the kids and go clean myself

This looks too much like one of those YouTube Nerf blaster wars for me to take it seriously! One of these:

Send him out on the pitch with an Elite blaster in future!

serious though, he lacks pace at times. Worrying

Players like ASM are very useful for lower half table sides, as a team set up to counter loves having an ASM.  Watching him run at a panicking, back-pedalling defence was always great fun. He can ‘dance’, and those players are always fun to watch.

But he isn’t a top level player, and now we are a very good side and as teams sit off us, his usefulness diminishes.  And then frustration kicks in, as he sets off on runs from the middle of the pitch into a bank of eight defenders.  The player he reminds me most of when he does that is Ketsbaia - ASM is a more talented dribbler, but the outcome was usually the same.

I do think that sometimes the idea of ASM outweighs the actuality.

If we go deep in the Champs Leeg or Europa there’ll be games where we can’t high press up the pitch or sustain possession and will need Maxi. If Real were forced to play that way verse a few teams, we will be also

Dont think he was judging the value of him as a footballer, just expressing probably the widely held view that posting that sort of thing on instagram is not a great reflection of character. Put me off him a bit too, which is also in my view irrelevant to my perspective on him as a footballer. It does however speak of a self-centredness which is the opposite personality required for a team collective. So in a away it is actually relevant to his employment at the club and i bet if you asked an expert leader of people like Eddie Howe, he would agree.

I also think its quite likely that the idea of him leaving the club was floated at the time of those posts, which makes sense. Eddie will have been watching his reaction. Was he going to roll his sleeves up and fight for the cause, knuckle down in his fitness and tactical training? Or make excuses and make it all about him? I cant know if thats true but i reckon it is.

How can it possibly be that a few self-centred social media posts means someone who kept our TEAM from being relegated 2 years in a row is selfish and so clearly not capable of being a team player?

Nothing Maxi posted online is better evidence of his ability and character to play in a team than his performances in the team. He’s always tried his best to do his job, whether making runs from deep to progress is up the pitch under Bruce, to keeping high and left, isolating his full back and trying to pass more under Howe.

As someone who wanted him to stay here, I think i will forget him pretty fast.

His edgy emo instagram posts turned me a little off tbh.

Judging the value of footballers by their Instagram posts? This world is crazy. What if you found out Ginola used to collect stamps or was into carving poetry into wood? Would that’ve turned you off him anarl?

  12. I absolutely cannot wait to read about the reaction of when Tonali first meets Bruno in a footballing sense. Just seeing the pure quality he'll be lining up alongside, and how buzzing for it he is. Melts my heart thinking about it!

I think you're getting this the wrong way around. He mainly played on the left side last season:

    Fair play you’re right.

"Best as the left hand no8" ?

Haven't seen that anywhere like. Most of the sites fbref and the like have him central and he played mainly on the right for Italy the other night.

In the title-winning year he played LCM mostly and did his best work there

  15. Before the summer window started I was thinking we’d sign a no. 6 that can play 8 at a push, and a number 10/winger that could play 8 at a push. But our first midfield signing is a number 8, and one who has played best as the left hand no.8. That’s the side we have the most talent with JLinton and and Willockinho.

So it has me wondering, could Eddie’s next magic trick be a software update of JLinton that turns him full on beast mode as a 6?
