Let me lay a few points out that we need to consider and how it benefits us by doing a deal

    • If united are smart (and they will be) they'll have applied to CAS and they will probably get their way
    • A CAS hearing could be expedited and he be in place before the end of this window
    • If we go to CAS and do not win, we have a precedent against us
    • There is a significant chance we get much less than we want
    • It may well void a number of terms we currently have
    • We may actually end up losing out on what we could get and damage our own FFP
    • We may not be able to hire an individual in place of DA whilst hes here
    • If we deal we can delay a start date
    • We can also implement terms on players that can & cannot be recruited as part of an expedited agreement
    • We can protect information and hire a replacement quicker
    • We can insert terms regarding any staff or other individuals that MUFC may wish to get from us
    • We have the ability to control the situation going forward

All of this so United potentially wait a few months is damaging

Why did we wait so long for Ashworth then? Why didn't we just go to CAS?

Genuine question btw, I have no idea on this stuff.

'United', FFS man, please stop typing that.

I really liked it when he sang ‘Fuck off Kevin Keegan’ and called us sad Geordie bastards after the ‘96 Cup Final.  We should name a stand after him.

In all seriousness, that’s only part of the reason why he hasn’t been as loved or respected as he might have been.  His spell at NUFC was brief - he was a superstar when he was here, but both injuries and a reversion to the mean had caught up with him by the time he was leaving the club.  He went nine games without a goal before he left - and by all accounts him and Paul Stretford had been hawking his services all over the shop.  We all loved him when he was here, but I don’t remember hearing anyone pining for his return after he went.

He won trophies after he left - but no-one would ever suggest that Man Utd wouldn’t have won those trophies without Andy Cole in the team.  Ultimately, he wasn’t a top drawer centre forward - he got the right move at the right time, in an era when the standard of English top flight football was at its lowest ebb.  Hoddle was (is) a nutter, but he was bang on re the number of chances he needed to score.  It’s incredibly to think of what Man Utd might have won if Ferguson had ever signed a genuine top class centre forward in that period.

Interesting to read this, I had no idea he had gone 9 without a goal prior to the sale. I think I was 12 when we sold him, I just remember being gutted and probably look at him through rose tinted glasses a bit.

Yeah, I think she was right too.  Ashley’s reign had basically bottomed-out our value.  A paint job and some TLC would likely have doubled the value relatively quickly.

I honestly think it doubled overnight (as you say).

Buying us was a no brainer for anyone. The way Ashley ran it was just bizarre from a business perspective.

He did well out of it, obviously, but it was so simple to do well out of it and increase the value at the same time.

    Weird.

Bit of a non update. Sounds promising but then I remember the 12 stages of transfers.

We are at an advanced stage for appointing Ashworths successor. Just doing due diligence before preparing an offer.                                                                   The Athletic

Chris T asked: Afternoon David, is there any further update on Newcastle’s search for Dan Ashworth’s replacement?

Ornstein: It’s at an advanced stage, Chris, but not yet complete. The process is being led by a recruitment firm and no doubt there will be differing preferences across the ownership group. They will want to reach a consensus pretty soon and then it will be about trying to strike a deal for their chosen candidate and getting them in the building. If that happens before an agreement is reached with Manchester United on Ashworth, it will be interesting to see if their strong stance on him remains or softens.

For me needs to be a top CB. A long term replacement for Schar who we can bed in over the next couple of years.

Failing that it would be someone like MGW who can play RW and RCM equally as effectively. Going into next season with Gordon, Barnes, MGW and Minteh as wing options, with Murphy/Tino/Hall as emergency options is pretty good strength in depth.

not to mention Joelinton for the left.

Lets say we need to raise £20m or we break PSR, I think its the easiest way. We are getting cents on the dollar for Miggy, Wilson, Longstaff.

    break PSR. Fuck them.

The Wilson one is interesting as his stock is at an absolute all time low. If he doesnt somehow tear his pec we probably aren't talking about this.

Targett is also has incredibly low stock right now.

Longstaff a year ago this forum mentioned him for England, now he is 8th choice CM, we have done a shocking job at selling assets when their stock is high.

As much as I'd hate it, the right move is to sell Joelinton while his stock is high.

Not a chance i'd sell Joelinton.

Let's be completely honest, Anderson was the much better player tonight out of both of them, by a country mile.

The right decision for Howe to make would have been to bring Willock on and take Longstaff off, that is as clear as day.

Anderson was done, he’s barley played and he was blowing out of his arse.

  10. Mixed bag tonight imo. All well and good at the weekend when the only instruction is to go forward. Think we saw tonight why he’s been held back.

He’ll be a player though, no doubt, but it isn’t as crazy as if maybe looked on Saturday that he hasn’t played as much.

The fact that Gordon can play both sides is great.

Bring in a top class RW option and let Gordon, Barnes and the new signing rotate the three spots.

I think I'd like to see Minteh stay with us next season. Could see him being a cracking option off the bench in the last 20 minutes of games.

Will depend on whether we have European football though.

Agreed, although i'd throw big Joe in that rotation too. I love him on the left.

Made up for him, was definitely questioning things after they got the third, our defending was shambolic at times.

The Krafh sub was logically to me, he doesn’t trust Hall that’s clear and Emi has never let him down.

    This.

I thought he was in trouble when they scored the third (as i then expected them to get a fourth), absolutely delighted we turned it around.

Hopefully onwards and upwards from here.

Aye, Huddlestone was amazing at striking a ball and have it glide along the ground or just kiss the turf at huge pace. Seemed a good lad, not exactly a complete player though. Scott Parker is like a less physical version of Conor Gallagher

He was fantastic with both feet.

Doesn't get in this England team though.
