It's just I think we have better squad players in his natural position and he's woeful in a position where we have very little cover, so his "versatility" is not worth much in my book. However, with the club's apparent decision to not bring in better centre back options I am glad he's still here, as I'd rather have him then nobody (but only just). That said, I'd much sooner play Kadar at centre back when we're short than Perch.

We are vulnerable to that even with Williamson and Colo in the side, meaning we can't really sustain a high line or we'll be punished. And when one of Colo or Williamson's out we're vulnerable to both that AND defending crosses, meaning we can't push up or defend deep without having our weakness exposed. Would be crazy to not bring in another defender imo. That was my point. We are already very vulnerable to pace and we can't respond to the opposition bringing on (or even starting) a fast striker, except drop deep and hope for the best. For me bringing in defensive cover with pace is (was?) crucial not only for the numbers in the squad, but also to counter a very specific threat that we are currently far to exposed to.

My main concern beside having to rely on f***ing James Perch if something happens to either Colo or Williamson is that we won't really have an answer to pacey strikers. By now I reckon every manager in the league has cottoned on to the idea that if WBA and Fulham can make us look very average by just bringing on a fast striker, everybody can. So even if we are lucky not to get injuries to our two fit centre backs, what are we going to do if the opposition put a speed merchant up top?

This. If we got him for £2.5m, and we got into Europe, perhaps due to more defensive stability, wouldn't the £700k increase be justified in increased revenue? Dear me. 700k is not exactly pocket money is it?

I don't know how you can say that. Raylor has contributed positively sometimes this season (often out of position I might add) and would not be considered cover for central defence, where we are at our bare bones. At best Perch is decent as defensive midfield cover, but I'd say we have other options there. As central defensive cover he is atrocious. Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we lost every single match where we've had to rely on him in central defence so far this season?

Surely your Chelsea's or Man City's would have a young promising centre back available for loan; somebody like Bruma (who's currently on loan to HSV)? More likely to get some first team action here in the next 6 months than at their current club, so could benefit all parties involved. I know this is not our blueprint, but it's miles better than gambling our entire season on Colo and Williamson staying fit and not getting suspended.
